Cyclone Okhi nears Mumbai
Maharashtra's minister Vinod Tawde said all schools and colleges in Mumbai's metropolitan region would remain closed on Tuesday
Thane and Navi Mumbai received rains ahead of Cyclone Ockhi's arrival as the India's weather department warnedthe cyclone could reach Maharashtra and south Gujaratin the next 24 hours.
Maharashtra's Education and Sports minister Vinod Tawde said all schools and colleges in Mumbai's metropolitan region including Sindhudurga, Thane Raigad and Palghar Districtswould remain closed on Tuesday as a precautionary measure against cyclone Ockhi.
The Indian Metrological Department(IMD) has predicted the cyclone will reach north Konkan and Goa including Mumbai tonight.
IMD official Pankaj Kumar said cyclone Ockhi is likely to cross south Gujarat near Surat by December 5.
The Gujarat government has issued instructions to district magistrates, asking them to take adequate precautionary measures. The Gujarat government has deployed National Disaster Relief Force(NDRF) teams as the cyclone nears the state.

Meanwhile, angry fishermen protested before Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan when he visited a fishing village in the state capital, reports said. There were also protests by fishermen reportedly in Kanyakumari.
Home minister Rajnath Singh has promised "all possible assistance to states and Union territories" affected by Cyclone Ockhi.
Rescue & relief operations are on in full swing, the home minister said.
The cyclone has left a trail of destruction in Tamil Nadu. At least 19 people have been killed with several still missing in the sea.
The cyclone hasdestroyed several powerlines and houses in the state.
