Two Pune police officers were suspended on Friday (May 24) for failing to report the Porsche accident to the wireless control room. The luxury car, driven by a 17-year-old, hit and killed Anish Awadhiya and Ashwini Koshta, both 24-year-old IT professionals who were travelling on a bike.

As reported by ANI news agency, Pune police commissioner Amitesh Kumar stated that inspector Rahul Jagdale and assistant inspector Vishwanath Todkari, both stationed at Yerwada police station, were suspended.

Earlier in the day, the police commissioner said someone tried to meddle with the evidence to make it look like the family driver, and not realtor Vishal Agarwal's teen son, was driving the car.

“We have the CCTV footage of him (juvenile) drinking liquor in the pub. The point of saying this is that our case is not alone depending on the blood report as we have other evidence also. He (juvenile) was fully in his senses, He had full knowledge that due to his conduct, such an accident, where section 304 is applicable, can happen,” Amitesh Kumar was quoted by PTI as saying.

The police commissioner also addressed accusations of preferential treatment, saying, "We have clearly said that a pizza party didn't happen in the police station. But yes, something had happened on which we have initiated an internal investigation. We are trying to make this a watertight case."

Father of accused in judicial custody

A local court has placed Vishal Agarwal and five others in judicial custody until June 7.

Although the prosecution wanted more time to investigate and requested an extension of their police custody, the court decided to place Agarwal and the others, along with the owner and employees of two establishments where the teenager reportedly consumed alcohol before the accident, in judicial custody instead.

Parents of deceased call for SC-monitored probe

The parents of the two software engineers who died have demanded that the Supreme Court oversee the investigation and trial in the case. The families have also urged that the trial be conducted in Madhya Pradesh, where the victims were from, and not in Maharashtra.

Speaking to PTI, Ashwini's father, Suresh Kumar Koshta, said, "The Supreme Court should monitor the investigation and trial in the case to ensure that we get justice."

"The accused should be tried as an adult and not as a minor, considering the serious nature of the crime," he said.
