Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for an International Airport in Navi Mumbai on Sunday.
While addressing the inaugural event held in Navi Mumbai, PM Modi said the aviation sector in India is growing at an exceptional rate due to which there is a need for quality infrastructure in the sector.
He said that the government introduced an aviation policy which is transforming the sector and added that the sector will help boost tourism and employment in the country.
PM Modi addedthat order for 900 new aeroplaneswas placed within last one year.
Hitting out at the UPA government, he said that the previous government was in the habit of delaying or blocking projects and added that his government revived such projects amounting to about 10 lakh crore.
He said that the Navi Mumbai project was also one of these projects.
Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari also assured the chief minister of the state Devendra Fadnavis and Civil Aviation Minister that they will work towards connecting the airport with many places of Mumbai through waterways.
PM Modi will also deliver an inaugural address at Global Investors' Summit-Magnetic Maharashtra: Convergence 2018 and will also inaugurate Wadhwani Institute for Artificial Intelligence at University of Mumbai.
