<p>The exact date of flight operation is yet to be announced; however, NMIA CEO Captain B V J K Sharma and Bansal hinted that commercial flights are expected to begin in December 2025. In response to shifting part of operations to NMIA, three major airlines, Air India, Akasa Air and IndiGo, have already signed.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Last month, Air India announced plans to start 20 daily departures (40 air traffic movements), IndiGo plans to operate 18 daily flights to more than 15 cities, and Akasa Air said in June that it will start with 15 daily domestic flights initially.</p><h3>What do we know about this project?</h3><p>The idea of building an airport in Navi Mumbai was first proposed in 1974 and gained momentum by 1985. By 1994, CIDCO and the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) had agreed to set up the airport in Navi Mumbai. A few years later, in 1997, CIDCO allotted Air India two to three large parcels of land and began constructing a residential colony for its staff.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>However, the airport project was soon shelved, and construction on the colony also came to a halt. When CIDCO later sought to reclaim the land, the Air India employees who had paid for the flats took the matter to court.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>After years of legal proceedings, the court ruled in favour of the staff in 2016, allowing them to retain the homes they had purchased. The airport, though, remained just a dream. Now, after 40 years, the long-awaited Navi Mumbai Airport is finally becoming a reality — though at a new site.</p>

<p>The data revealed that economic offences increased by 11.1%, corruption by 10.5% and cyber crimes by 24.4% in 2022. The report is based on data collected from 36 states and Union territories as well as central agencies.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The report said that as many as 1,62,449 cases of crimes against children were registered during 2022, the figure showed an increase of 8.7% (1,49,404 cases) compared to 2021.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The report stated that a majority of these cases related to kidnapping and abduction (45.7%) and 39.7% were filed under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.</p>

<p>The under-construction Mumbai Trans-Harbour Link (MTHL) will be India's longest sea bridge upon completion. It will also be the first sea bridge in India to have an Open Road Tolling (ORT) system. This means commuters will not need to slow down to pay toll charges.</p>

<p>MTHL is being built at a cost of more than USD 2 billion. When completed, the bridge will cater to about 70,000&nbsp;vehicles. Media reports say that 95 per cent of the work has been completed and the bridge will be ready before the year ends.</p>

<p>"Work on structures is almost complete. Tomorrow evening, at an event, we are going to connect the bridge to the mainland. The remaining work -- road laying, electrical, intelligent transport system (electronic tolling) -- will be done after the event. It is possible to achieve the target we set two years ago, to finish by December end this year," said SVR Srinivas, the commissioner of Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority.&nbsp;</p>

Mumbai is once again receiving heavy to very heavy rainfall for the last two days. The IMD has said that Mumbai, Thane and Navi Mumbai are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall in the next 24 hours. The weather department has issued an orange alert for the next 48 hours. “We have issued an orange alert for Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts. An orange alert is merely a warning for authorities to get prepared, while a red alert directs them to take action as the situation might turn severe. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely in Mumbai, Thane, and Raigad districts, while extremely heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places in Palghar district,” an IMD official told PTI.

PM Modi lays foundation stone for International Airport in Navi Mumbai

<p>A major fire broke out in a mattress foam manufacturing factory at Taloja MIDC in Navi Mumbai around noon today, a fire brigade official said.</p>

<p>There was no report of injury to anyone in the blaze, which was doused after over three hours, he added.</p>

<p>&quot;The fire broke out in a private foam manufacturing company near Padgha village in Taloja MIDC, Navi Mumbai around 12 noon. No casualty was reported in the incident,&quot; the official said.</p>

<p>The police constables, who were deputed at police check post at Taloja MIDC, alerted fire brigade about the incident.</p>

<p>The exact reason behind the fire is yet to be ascertained as the cooling operation is still underway.</p>

<p>The fire was major, the MIDC fire services sought the help of CIDCO Kalamboli fire brigade in Navi Mumbai and Ambernath fire brigade, the official said.</p>

<p>&quot;After more than three hours of firefighting, the blaze was doused by the fire brigade,&quot; Santosh Warik, Chief Fire Officer of MIDC said.</p>

<p>Now the cooling process is going on. Police and fire brigade officials have started a probe to find out what triggered the fire, he said.</p>

<p>&quot;We will get to know how much losses the company suffered after a detailed investigation,&quot; the official said.&nbsp;</p>
