Lok Sabha Polls 2024 Phase 1: Nearly 64% voter turnout recorded; West Bengal leads, Bihar records lowest

April 19 markedthe commencement of the 18th Lok Sabha elections with the initiation of the firstphase of votingacross 21 states and Union territories. A significant turnout of nearly 64% was observed in the first phase of Lok Sabha elections.

The electoral battlefield saw the involvement of several prominent figures, including Union ministers Nitin Gadkari, Bhupendra Yadav, Kiren Rijiju, Jitendra Singh, Arjun Ram Meghwal, and Sarbananda Sonowal. Additionally, Congress's Gaurav Gogoi, DMK's Kanimozhi, and BJP's Tamil Nadu chief K Annamalai wereamong thosevying for victory in this phase.
