Results for the Lok Sabha elections are almost out and India's northeast region has been an important focus. The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at the Centre is working hard to increase its presence in the region, while the Congress is struggling to hold on to its bastions. The northeast India has seven states- Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Sikkim, and Nagaland.

Here's a look at how the political parties have fared so far:

1) Arunachal Pradesh:

In Arunachal, the BJP won both the constituencies ofArunachal Eastand Arunachal West. Data from the Election Commission of India (ECI) showed that in Arunachal West, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju defeated Congress leader Nabam Tuki by a margin of 100,738 votes. In Arunachal East, BJP's Tapir Gao defeated Congress leader Bosiram Siram by 30,421 votes.

The BJP also emerged victorious in the state assembly polls securing 46 out of the total 60 seats.

2) Assam:

Assam has a total of 14 constituencies, and the ruling BJP won nine of those. The Congress won three seats and theUnited People’s Party, Liberal (UPPL) andAsom Gana Parishad (AGP) won one seat each.

3) Manipur:

The Congress emerged victorious in both the seats in Manipur.Data from the ECI showed that in the Inner Manipur constituency- Congress leader Angomcha Bimol Akoijam defeatedBJP's Thounaojam Basanta Kumar Singh by a massive margin of109,801 votes.Six candidates contested the Inner Manipur seat, while four aspirants were in the fray for the Outer Manipur seat, which is dominated by people belonging to the Naga and Kuki-Zomi tribes.

4) Meghalaya:

It was a tight fight betweenthe Voice of the People Party (Meghalaya) (VOTPP) and the Congress for the twoLok Sabha seats in the state. The VOTPP won in theShillong constituency while the Congress emerged victorious in the Tura constituency.

5) Mizoram:

Richard Vanlalhmangaiha from the ZoramPeople's Movement defeated Mizo National Front leader K Vanlalvena by 68,288 votes in the sole Lok Sabha constituency.

6) Sikkim:

The lone Lok Sabha seat in Sikkim was won bySikkim Krantikari Morcha leader Indra Hang Subba. Subba defeatedCitizen Action Party-Sikkim's Bharat Basnett by a margin of 80,830 votes, data from the ECI showed.

7) Nagaland:

Congress has won the loneseat- the Nagaland Lok Sabha Constituency- in the northeastern state.Congress'S Supongmeren Jamir defeatedNDPPcandidate Dr Chumben Murry by a margin of50,984 votes.
