<h3>What the administration said?</h3>The situation was brought under control after senior authorities including the police department intervened and relocated the Northeast students to separate accommodation. The hostel authorities approached the the District Collector and Superintendent of Police after some Northeast students were reportedly injured during the confrontation. The students also reportedly sought shelter inside the hostel amid the tension. Former Manipur CM N Biren Singh also reacted to the matter on social media and requested Andhra Pradesh CM N Chandrababu Naidu to look into the matter.&nbsp;According to the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister's Office, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu reviewed the incident and directed senior officials to resolve the matter immediately. Acting on his instructions, the District Collector and SP ensured the students' safety, arranged accommodation and took steps to prevent further escalation. Students from Manipur thanked the authorities for their intervention and the arrangements made for their safety. The Government of India has formally assigned standard names to 27 places and geographical features in Arunachal Pradesh, reinforcing the country's official cartographic records amid the continuing boundary dispute with China.

The Ministry of Home Affairs said the exercise was carried out in consultation with the Arunachal Pradesh government. The newly designated names have been incorporated into the official maps of the Survey of India, providing uniform legal, administrative and cartographic recognition to the identified locations.

The move comes against the backdrop of China's repeated attempts to rename locations in Arunachal Pradesh, which Beijing refers to as “South Tibet.” New Delhi has consistently rejected China's claims over the northeastern state and maintains that Arunachal Pradesh is an integral part of India.

“When I took over as BCCI secretary in September 2019, immediately within three to four months, there was the Covid-19 pandemic. All our focus was on how to host the IPL and some domestic cricket.&nbsp;

“For two years, the BCCI office was almost shut. Once we got the second term, we decided that we must take this forward. This was about developing facilities in the North-East. And the NCA, I had laid the foundation stone in 2022 in Bengaluru. In 2008, we had procured land, but no work was done. I don't know why my predecessors didn't do anything,” Shah said.

Upon being asked to express further about the work done in the northeast, Shah said it was his prime focus and that every state board is happy with the facility available and the progress done by the BCCI lately.

“They have been given full membership of the Board. They are an integral part of the country, and getting opportunities is their right, and giving it is the Board's duty.&nbsp;

“Creating facilities in the North-East was in my mind for a long time. The moment the bonding between the local associations there and BCCI improved, we started work. They are also more than happy. Earlier, they would get Rs 5 crore to run cricket, and today they get Rs 20 crore to host matches,” Shah continued.

<h2>Cricket set to rise in East</h2>

Although West Bengal, Jharkhand and even Assam have seen plenty of development over the years, the BCCI laid a foundation stone for a state-of-the-art indoor facility in six northeastern states - Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, and Sikkim, as announced earlier.

Jay Shah also informed that the BCCI is launching a new pavilion in Mizoram.

Data from the Election Commission of India (ECI) showed that in Arunachal West, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju defeated Congress leader Nabam Tuki by a margin of 100,738 votes. In Arunachal East, BJP's Tapir Gao defeated Congress leader Bosiram Siram by 30,421 votes. The BJP also emerged victorious in the state assembly polls securing 46 out of the total 60 seats. 2) Assam: Assam has a total of 14 constituencies, and the ruling BJP won nine of those. The Congress won three seats and the United People’s Party, Liberal (UPPL) and Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) won one seat each. 3) Manipur: The Congress emerged victorious in both the seats in Manipur. Six candidates contested the Inner Manipur seat, while four aspirants were in the fray for the Outer Manipur seat, which is dominated by people belonging to the Naga and Kuki-Zomi tribes. 4) Meghalaya: It was a tight fight between the Voice of the People Party (Meghalaya) (VOTPP) and the Congress for the two Lok Sabha seats in the state. The VOTPP won in the Shillong constituency while the Congress emerged victorious in the Tura constituency. 5) Mizoram: Richard Vanlalhmangaiha from the Zoram People's Movement defeated Mizo National Front leader K Vanlalvena by 68,288 votes in the sole Lok Sabha constituency. 6) Sikkim: The lone Lok Sabha seat in Sikkim was won by Sikkim Krantikari Morcha leader Indra Hang Subba. The PMO called this project an engineering marvel in its official statement. It will provide all-weather connectivity to Tawang across the Sela pass on the Balipara -Chariduar- Tawang Road in Arunachal Pradesh. The tunnel was built using the new Austrian Tunnelling Method and incorporating safety features of the highest standards.

The tunnel was flagged off during PM Modi’s address on the ‘Viksit Bharat Viksit Northeast’ (Developed India, Developed Northeast) programme in Itanagar. During the address, the PM reiterated the government’s commitment to making Northeast the growth engine of India.

Previously, Arunachal Pradesh's lack of roads and railways posed a disadvantage for India compared to China along the northeastern border. China's infrastructure development, including access roads to the Indian border, provided a strategic advantage.&nbsp;

More than 200 Indian Jews have either reserved or active combat duty since the October 7 terror assault, Jerusalem Post reported citing Shavei Israel non-profit organisation.

According to the organisation, they are members of the Bnei Menashe community.

The Bnei Menashe are a community of more than 9,000 people from the northeastern Indian states of Mizoram and Manipur. They practice a form of biblical Judaism and claim descent from one of the Lost Tribes of Israel.

The NGO on Monday (Nov 6) claimed that 75 of the recent immigrants from India have enlisted in combat units, while 140 were called up for reserve service across Israel.

<h2>Bnei Menashe community fights for Israel&nbsp;</h2>

Shavei Israel organisation aims to foster ties between&nbsp;Diaspora communities&nbsp;across the globe and the State of Israel. They claim to have been lobbying for the mass immigration of the Bnei Menashe community.

“Since the war broke out, Shavei Israel has received hundreds of requests from young community members in northeastern India asking to make Aliyah (immigrate) immediately," Michael Freund, founder of Shavei Israel non-profit, told The Jerusalem Post.

"Not only that – they are asking to join the IDF immediately to fight shoulder to shoulder with their brothers and sisters."

According to him, the Menashe people in India have been for years requesting to immigrate to Israel.

Of the 215 immigrants from India, 99 per cent of all men of military age joined Israel's fight against the Hamas terrorist group, while 90 per cent of women enrolled in&nbsp;National Service.

On September 20, 1942, at the height of the 'Quit India' movement, Kanaklata Barua was shot dead by the British forces in present-day Gohpur, Assam. The 17-year-old was trying to unfurl the tricolour at a police station.

The same day, in another part of Assam, Bhogeswari Phukanani met with a similar fate at the hands of the Britishers. She too was trying to hoist the Indian flag.

They were martyrs of India's freedom struggle. These women and many other freedom fighters from the Northeast remain unknown to their compatriots.

The history of Northeast India has been one of neglect and over 70 years of independence, the region's contribution to freedom struggle has been overlooked.

Like the rest of India, the Northeast too was resisting British oppression.&nbsp;

The East India Company's rule in the region effectively began with the Treaty of Yandabo in 1826 which ended the First Anglo-Burmese War. The victorious British, then,&nbsp;seized control of the region.

The successive years saw an increasing opposition to British subjugation.&nbsp;

In Arunachal Pradesh, Matmur Jamoh refused to bow down to the Britishers. He breathed his last in Andaman's Cellular Jail where he was lodged after killing a British officer.&nbsp;

Among others who rose against the colonialists was Rani Gaidinliu. A Naga spiritual leader, she became a leading political figure in Manipur.

She was arrested at the age of 16 and spent 14 years in jail. The title 'Rani' or queen was bestowed upon her by former Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru who met her while she was lodged in prison.

Rani Gaidinliu has gained national prominence in recent times. Prime Minister Narendra Modi felicitated the freedom fighter in 2015.

A year later on the Independence Day, the Central government honoured 10 Northeastern freedom fighters including Rani Gaidinliu for their role in the fight against the Britishers.

Back then, PM Modi had lamented that historians ignored the contribution of leaders from the region.

In his book, 'India and Northeast India', Sajal Nag touched upon the historic exclusion of Northeast India. He said, "The Ahom dynasty has ruled Assam longer than the Mughals ruled India yet there is no mention of the kingdom in history books."

The political establishment has also time and again neglected the Northeast - a region which sends fewer MPs to the parliament than any other region.

A nation is defined by its shared history. Naturally, historical assimilation should go hand in hand with cultural integration.&nbsp;

Moving on this path to integration, an NCERT textbook on the Northeast was introduced in school syllabus in 2017.&nbsp;

But scholars from the region feel that more needs to be done.

Kasmita Bora, an M.Phil scholar at the North East Hill University, Shillong said, "Changes in school syllabus was the first step. The government and academia should work together in organising seminars and lectures to spread awareness about Northeast India."
