Four Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists neutralised in a recent operation by the Indian Army in the Kulgam area of Jammu and Kashmir, were found hiding in a bunker constructed inside an almirah.

The hideout was situated in the Chinnigam Frisal area of Kulgam, where terrorists were hiding at a civilian’s house, as per reports. Indian media also reported that concerned authorities are investigating the involvement of locals in sheltering the terrorists. 

The aftermath of the encounter was caught in a video, which is doing rounds on social media. In the video, the security officials can be seen inspecting what appears to be a small yet well-fortified concrete hideout concealed behind a wardrobe in a civilian residence.

In the encounter, two Indian Army soldiers were also killed in action, with a total of six Hizbul terrorists killed in separate encounters in south Kashmir. 

The two soldiers, who laid down their lives, included one elite para commando. Speaking on ongoing operations in Kashmir, Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police RR Swain said the neutralisation of such a large number of terrorists is a major achievement.

“Chinar Corps Commander, Chief Secretary of J-K, DGP J-K, and other dignitaries and all ranks paid homage to Lance Naik Pardeep Kumar and Sepoy Pravin Janjal Prabhakar, who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty in Kulgam on 06 Jul 2024,” Indian Army Chinar Corps posted on X on Sunday.

Two encounters in South Kashmir

On Saturday night, two encounters took place in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district- one broke out in Madergam, where one of the soldiers was killed and two terrorists were slain. The second encounter took place in Chinigam, where four terrorists were killed and the other Army soldier lost his life in action.

The four terrorists killed in Chinigam were identified as Yawar Bashir Dar, Zahid Ahmad Dar, Tawheed Ahmad Rather, and Shakeel Ahmad Wani. The two terrorists killed in Madergam were identified as Faisal and Adil, Indian media reported.

All six terrorists were found to be affiliated with the Hizbul Mujahideen, with one identified as a local commander of the group.
