J&K terror attack: Second terrorist eliminated in Kathua district

The two militants who opened gunfire in a village in Jammu and Kashmir' Kathua, late last night on Tuesday (June 11) have been eliminated in a confrontation.

Additionally, a aCRPF soldier lost his life during the exchange of gunfire.

Two encounters that started overnight in Jammu have continued till Wednesday (June 12) morning. One of these incidents, in Doda, resulted in injuries to five soldiers and a special police officer (SPO) during the initial shootout.

In a separate terror attack in Doda district, three security personnel were injured during an exchange of firing after the terrorists targeted a joint checkpost of the 4 Rashtriya Rifles and the police on the Bhadarwah-Pathankot road late Tuesday night.

This is the third incident in three days in Jammu. Previously, terrorists targeted civilians in Kathua injuring one, and pilgrims on a bus in Reasi killing nine.

During the shootout, one terrorist was also eliminated in Kathua last night, said Anand Jain, Additional Director General of Police, Jammu zone, who is supervising the anti-terrorist operation.

Briefing about the Doda incident, he said terrorists opened fire at a joint party of police and Rashtriya Rifles at an army base in Chattargala area last night. An encounter was in progress between the security forces and the terrorists in the higher reaches, he said.

The security forces are now looking forthe last remaining terrorist with the help of drones in the Hiranagar area of Kathua.

Jain called the Kathua attack a "fresh infiltration" and also pointed at Pakistan without naming it.

"It is our unfriendly neighbour who always tries to damage the peaceful environment in our country. The Hiranagar terror attack appear to be a fresh infiltration. Though one terrorist has been killed, the search for the others involved in the attack remains ongoing."

The DIG Jammu and Kashmir Police and Senior Superintendent of Police Kathua also had a narrow escape after a terrorist fired a barrage of bullets on their vehicles amid the ongoing anti-terrorists operation in Hiranagar.

In a related development, the security forces have recovered arms and ammunition around the ongoing gunfight site.

The recovered arms and ammunition included three magazines with 30 rounds each, another magazine with 24 rounds, 75 rounds in a separate bag, three live grenades, currency worth 1 lakh (200 notes of 500 rupees), eatables (Pakistani-made chocolates, dry channa, and stale chapatis), Pakistani-made medicines and pain-killer injections, a syringe, two packs of A4 batteries, and a handset wrapped in tape with an antenna and two wires hanging from it.

Meanwhile, Union Minister Jitendra Singh said that he was in touch with top civil and police officials in the district.

“I am in continuous online contact with DC (deputy commissioner) Kathua Sh Rakesh Minhas in the wake of the terrorist attack on a house in village Saida in Hiranagar sector close to the International Border," he said.

Reasi police release sketch of terrorist, announce reward

Meanwhile, Reasi police announced a reward of Rupees 20 lakhs(23,921.66 USD) for any fruitful information about the whereabouts of a terrorist involved in the recent attack on a bus carrying Hindu pilgrims.

The sketch of the militant has been prepared on the disclosure and description of eyewitnesses.
