The Jammu and Kashmir government had in February approved the withdrawal of over 9000cases registered against stone pelters.

The cases withdrawn included first time offenders between 2008 and 2017.

Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Mehbooba Mufti had also assured earlier that her government had recommended giving amnesty to more than 4000 people involved in minor incidents of stone pelting in the past two years.
