JD(U) places its demands for unconditional support to NDA: Details here

JD(U) places its demands for unconditional support to NDA: Details here

The Janata Dal (United) said on Thursday (June 6) that it was offering unconditional support to National Democratic Alliance (NDA) but placed a few of its demands. Speaking to the news agency ANI, JD(U) leader KC Tyagi said that his party wants the shortcomings in the Agnipath schemeto be discussed in detail.

"A section of voters has been upset over the Agniveer scheme. Our party wants those shortcomings which have been questioned by the public to be discussed in detail and removed," Tyagi said.

He also talked about the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), signalling that the JD(U) was not against the measurebut it should be discussed with the stakeholders including states, chief ministers, and political parties.

'Bihar should be given special status'

Tyagi advocated for acaste census saying that Prime MinisterNarendra Modi was not opposed to it."A caste census is being demanded by all. Bihar has paved the way for it. Even the Prime Minister did not oppose the caste census, so we will pursue it," he added.

The JD(U) leader also spokeon special status for Bihar, which has been a demand of the party and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

"There is no pre-condition. There is unconditional support. But Bihar should be given a special status. That is something which we have in our heart...," Tyagi further told ANI.

Apart from the JD(U), former Andhra Pradesh chief minister Chandrababu Naidu's Telugu Desam Party (TDP) also extended support to the NDA.

Congress, BJP react to Tyagi's remark on Agnipath scheme

Both the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have reacted to Tyagi's remark on the Agnipath scheme. Speaking to ANI, Congress leader Deepender Hooda backed Tyagi's remark and said, "The whole country is against it (Agnipath scheme). What JD(U) has said is correct..."

On the other hand, Bihar Deputy Chief Minister and BJP leader Samrat Chaudhary said, "...Rajnath Singh ji had given a statement on this and had stated about review (if needed)..."
