India, Italy committed to fight terror: PM Modi

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Italian PM Paolo Gentiloni, who held delegation-level talks on Monday, signed six Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) across various fields to further strengthen the bilateral relations between the two countries.

The MoUs signed between the two sides included Joint Declaration of Cooperation for Safety in the Railway Sector, MoU on 70 years of Diplomatic Relations, MoU on Cooperation in the field of Energy, Executive Protocol on Cultural Cooperation, MoU between MFA, Italy & FSI, MEA, India and MoU for Promoting Mutual Investment.

PM Modi said both countries were committed to fight against terror, to increase tourism and people-to-people ties between the two countries.

"Discussed several aspects of cooperation between India and Italy in our detailed meetings today," PM Modi said.

"Both of us are committed to fight unitedly against terror and on the issue of cybersecurity," PM Modi after meeting his Italian counterpart.

The Italian Prime Minister, who was given a ceremonial reception at the Rashtrapati Bhavan by PM Modi, said that both the nations have strong economic relations, common interest and are fighting against terrorism.

PM Modi and the Italian prime minister also released a commemorative stamp to mark 70 years of diplomatic relationship between India and Italy.

Earlier in the day, the two leaders interacted with Indian and Italian CEOs for boosting economic and investment cooperation.

The visiting dignitaries also met external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj and discussed issues of mutual interest.

The Italian Prime Minister and his wife Emanuela Gentiloni also paid tributes to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat.

The Italian PM also called on Indian President Ram Nath Kovind.

PM Gentiloniwill also deliver a lecture at an event organised by Observers Research Foundation (ORF), a Delhi-based think tank.
