Security forces in Jammu and Kashmir are carrying out massive search operations in three districts: Anantnag, Kishtwar and Udhampur of the union territory. The first operation that started on August 10 in South Kashmir's Kokernag area of Anantnag district continues on the third day. Two Indian Army soldiers along with a civilian were killed in that operation.
Jammu and Kashmir's Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha laid a wreath and paid homage to the two Indian Army soldiers, identified as Havaldar Dipak Kumar Yadav and LNk Parveen Sharma, who laid down their lives during an anti-terror operation in Anantnag.
“I salute the indomitable courage of our Bravehearts, who made supreme sacrifice for the nation. Their valour and sacrifice will never be forgotten. The entire nation stands firmly with the families of the martyrs in this hour of grief,” the LG said.

The second operation started on Sunday (Aug 11) in the Kishtwar area of Jammu region. Security forces said that a brief exchange of fire took place between terrorists and security forces in the Kishtwar Police Station area. After that, a massive search operation was started and is being carried out on the second day.
The third operation by the Indian Army, Jammu Kashmir Police and paramilitary forces is being carried out in the higher reaches of the Basantgarh area ofUdhampur district in Jammu Region.
Security forces said that based on specific intelligence about the presence of terrorists, a joint search operation was launched by security forces in the higher reaches of Basantgarh under the J/D of P/S Basantgarh of Udhampur. Exchange of fire has taken place, and the area has been cordoned off.
"Following specific inputs, contact was re-established with terrorists during dusk hours today at Khaned. Cordon remains intact while searches are being undertaken," said Jammu and Kashmir Police.
The Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir has been on high alert ahead of the Independence Day celebrations. Security has been beefed up across the areas close to Line of Control and hinterland too.
