Heavy rains lashed various parts of India's national capital as people got relief from intense heat and sultry weather.
According to news agency ANI, Munirka, Sarita Vihar and other parts of Delhi received heavy downpours as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted more showers during the week.
"Light to moderate intensity rain and gusty winds with speed of 30-40 Km/h would occur over and adjoining areas of few places of Delhi during the next two hours," stated the IMD, in a post on X at 7:30 AM.
According to the weather agency, rainfall was also predicted over Ghaziabad, Noida, and Gurugram.

Delhi received the much-awaited rainfall after reeling under intense spells of heatwave for weeks.

Delhi was facing sweltering heat and recorded nine heatwave days in June. No heatwave days were recorded by the national capital in 2023 and 2022.
Monsoon is expected to arrive in Delhi by the end of this week
The IMD earlier on Wednesday (June 26) predicted that Delhi's maximum and minimum temperatures will be nearly 38 degrees Celsius and 29 degrees Celsius, respectively.
The capital's primary weather station - Safdarjung Observatory - recorded a temperature of 39 degrees Celsius on Wednesday (June 26), which was two notches above normal.
IMD forecasts heavy rain in Delhi this week
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that Delhi’s maximum temperature was below 40°C due to pre-monsoon showers on Wednesday (June 26) but humidity levels were high.
The Met Department, in a seven-day forecast for the national capital, has predicted rain till the end of the month and said that showers are likely to intensify on the last two days of the month which can be a signal of the arrival of monsoon.

The weather agency stated that Delhi would receive light to moderate rain on June 29 and issued a yellow alert for the day and predicted moderate to heavy rain on June 30, while issuing an orange alert.
“We are expecting an increase in rain intensity in northwest India from June 28 and monsoon could reach Delhi on June 29 or 30. Delhi-NCR may see heavy rainfall spell during this period, based on which the onset of the monsoon could be declared,” stated Mahesh Palawat, who is the vice president of private weather forecasting service Skymet.
