Padmavati cleared by British Censor Board without any cuts but makers not keen to release film in UK

Even as Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Padmavati faces severe opposition in India, the British Certification Board has passed the film for its official release on December 1 in United Kingdom.

The Board has cleared Padmavati with no cuts and has certified it with 12 A. The official handle of BBFC tweeted the certification of Padmavati and mentioned all the details including the release date of the film and under which category the film falls.

The tweet reads: “Moderate Violence, injury detail', run time 164 minutes and further clarifies that the release date is 1/12/2017 as decided earlier(sic)."

However, sources close to the film have categorically stated that makers will not release the film internationally unless it is cleared by the censor board in India. "They won't dispatch international print till domestic is cleared by the censors," the source told WION.

There has been a massive uproar in India against the film's content with several Rajput outfits claiming that the film distorts history and hence should be banned. The film was earlier supposed to release in India on December 1.

Owing to the protests, the makers decided to push the release of the film. Padmavati has already been banned in two states- Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh while Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Punjab have demanded cuts in the film for it to release in their respective states.
