
Cyclonic Storm 'Hamoon,' as per the India Meteorological Department's (IMD) latest update, has intensified into a severe cyclonic storm over the Northwest Bay of Bengal.
As per IMD, Cyclone Hamoon over the Northwest and adjoining West-central Bay of Bengal moved north-eastwards with a speed of 18 kilometres per hour during the past six hours.
Following its six-hour movement, the cyclonic storm intensified into a severe cyclonic storm.
At this point, around 2:30 am (local time), the cyclonic storm lay centred over the northwest Bay of Bengal, near latitude 19.3°N and longitude 88.4°E — about 210 kilometres east-southeast of Paradip (Odisha), 270 kilometres south-southeast of Digha (West Bengal) and 350 kilometre south-southwest of Khepupara (Bangladesh), reports news agency ANI.
As per the Indian Meteorological Department, Cyclonic storm Hamoon is very likely to move nearly north-northeast wards and should cross the Bangladesh coast between Khepupara and Chittagong around noon on October 25 as a Deep Depression.
In Odisha, on Monday, the Municipal Administration put all Urban Local Bodies (ULB) on alert in view of the formation of cyclonic storm 'Hamoon' in the Bay of Bengal.
Sangramjit Nayak, the Director of Municipal Administration in an official statement, issued a directive to all ULB Chiefs. He warned them about the impending danger that looms over the areas due to the formation of cyclonic storm 'Hamoon' in the Bay of Bengal and said that the cyclone will culminate in huge rainfall, wind, and inclement weather.
The Odisha government also instructed officials of different departments to be prepared for anything and asked them to evacuate people from sea shores and low-lying areas.
