Ulta Beauty is facing backlash for choosing Jonathan Van Ness to promote its hair products. The brand is extremely huge in the United States and caters to women. However, Van Ness, who uses he/him, she/her, and they/them pronouns, now has a hair care line at Ulta, leaving people miffed. Several Americans are angry to see Ulta picking Ness when its main market is women. A video shared by the brand shows Ness walking inside a store and greeting employees.
Scientists have found a unique way to tell the wolves who's the boss. The US Department of Agriculture is using a recording from the popular film Marriage Story to scare away the predators attacking livestock on the farmlands across the West Coast. An audio clip of Scarlett Johansson and Adam Driver fighting with each other in the 2019 movie is being broadcast on the loudspeaker to shoo away the wolves, the Wall Street Journal reported. That's an interesting approach by officials who think the loud noises of the two quarrelling are enough to instil fear in these animals. Marriage Story is about a couple in the middle of a divorce and features some exceptional scenes between the two. The clip is a way to let the wolves know that humans are terrible creatures. Paul Wolf, a USDA district supervisor in Oregon, told the WSJ, "I need the wolves to respond and know that, hey, humans are bad", and the shouting and fighting scenes between Johansson and Driver are doing just that.
TV actress Rupali Ganguly, known for her popular show Anupamaa, has raised questions about why Indian television is still overlooked at the National Awards. The 71st National Film Awards were announced last week, where Shah Rukh Khan, Virkant Massey, Rani Mukerji, and others were announced as winners. Amid all the buzz around the awards, Ganguly has raised questions about why Indian TV actors do not receive the same level of validation at the national level.

Rupali Ganguly demands National Awards for the television industry

In a conversation with paparazzi account Viral Bhayani, Ganguly said, "There are National Awards for everyone from film stars to content creators. But there’s nothing for TV artistes. Even during the COVID-19 pandemic, others had the advantage of delaying their shooting schedules, but we kept working. When a film star works continuously, it makes headlines. But no one talked about how we, the TV artists, worked non-stop from 6 am to 6 pm during the pandemic. I request the government to consider us also. We work very hard; it'll be nice to have some validation."

Rupali Ganguly is one of the top TV stars of the country, with her show Anupamaa consistently topping the charts every month.

I am very proud that Smriti ji returned to TV. It's such a big validation. Her comeback will make a lot of difference, and it will bring all the eyes back to television.

Former Union Minister and TV actress Smriti Irani has recently returned to the screen with a reboot of the iconic show Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi —the show that originally catapulted Irani to superstardom.

The comeback has left fans nostalgic, and the new version is already receiving considerable love from viewers. One of the most popular faces on Indian television, actress Rupali Ganguly as questioned the government on why there aren't any National Awards for Indian Televsion artists.

Rupali Ganguly demands National Awards for the television industry In a conversation with paparazzi account Viral Bhayani, Ganguly said, "There are National Awards for everyone from film stars to content creators. We work very hard; it'll be nice to have some validation." Rupali Ganguly is one of the top TV stars of the country, with her show Anupamaa consistently topping the charts every month.

A taut geo-political spy thriller also stars Manushi Chhillar, Neeru Bajwa, and Madhurima Tuli. The film is set to release on 14th August 2025. The film is a fictionalised version inspired by true events and unfolds against the simmering global tension between Israel and Iran.

Directed by Arun Gopalan, Tehran dives into the shadowy world of international espionage where one man’s allegiance could tip the balance between loyalty and betrayal.

As seen in the trailer, the story draws inspiration from the 2012 bomb explosion near the Israeli Embassy in Delhi, a real-life incident that spiralled into complex diplomatic ripples. As ACP Rajeev Kumar (John Abraham) is pulled into a covert operation that spans continents, ideologies, and fractured alliances, the lines between right and wrong begin to blur. Is Rajeev India’s ultimate patriot, silently shaping the nation’s future from the shadows—or a rouge officer playing by his own rules?

Tehran is far more than a globe-spanning thriller—it’s a psychological and political minefield. The film doesn’t just trace espionage operations — it dissects international politics, deception, and mind games.

Director Arun Gopalan said, "Tehran, to me, is a mirror held up to a fractured world. A story about shifting loyalties, blurred identities, and the human cost hidden in the shadows of global politics. We approached it with honesty and restraint because the truth it draws from is far from fiction. Every decision these characters make carries weight; every silence, every betrayal leaves a mark. I’m thankful to John, Manushi, and the cast for stepping into this world with such courage and authenticity. More than a spy thriller, Tehran is a tense, adrenaline-charged ride that forces you to ask: whose truth do you believe?”

Filmmaker Sudipto Sen was named as Best Director at the 71st National Film Awards announced on Friday. Sen’s controversial film The Kerala Story won two awards at the National Film Awards 2023 – Best Director and Best Cinematography. While Sen and the team have been celebrating the win, the announcement has been met with severe criticism by many, including Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan who has criticized the announcement, calling the honour 'an insult to the tradition of Indian cinema'. Sen, while speaking to WION post his win, has stated that he is too busy celebrating the win at the moment and thus, will reply to the CM later. He has also urged Vijayan to watch the film before criticizing.

In an exclusive conversation with WION, Sen responded to CM Vijayan’s scathing remark on the film and his win and said, “I am counting on my love, affection and adulation. The number is so huge, that I don't have time for criticism at this moment. Maybe after a few days, when the whole success will sink in, I will reply to everyone.”

The director also added, “The Chief Minister deserves my answer. But my only request is, when I answer, I would expect that he watches my film.” When asked what made him believe that the politician had not watched the film, Sen replied, “I have a feeling he did not see the film. And if he has seen the film, then definitely he would agree with me (and the film).”

The Kerala Story was released in September 2023 and starred Adah Sharma in the lead. The film was about a group of girls from Kerala who were radicalised by ISIS militants. Makers claimed that the film is inspired by true events, and that 32000 girls from Kerala have met this fate. This claim was challenged by the Kerala government in court, and the makers had to drop the number from the film. The Kerala Story was released to a good reception from the audiences, minting over ₹300 crore at the box office.

By honouring a film that spreads blatant misinformation with the clear intent of tarnishing Kerala’s image and sowing seeds of communal hatred, the jury of the #NationalFilmAwards has lent legitimacy to a narrative rooted in the divisive ideology of the Sangh Parivar.
The film has been accused of being a propaganda film by many. As the film won two National Awards, jury member Pradeep Nair objected publicly and raised serious objections. “We must rally against politics that turn art into a weapon to foster communalism,” he stated.

The Students Association of the Film and Television Institute of India also voiced their objection in a scathing statement issued on Sunday.

Making The Kerala Story was difficult

When asked what was more difficult, making The Kerala Story or dealing with criticism that came its way, Sen chose the former and said he was prepared for the criticism owing to the subject of the film.

“I knew that I would be facing difficult questions. Because when you have to speak an unpleasant truth, there will be a backlash. Otherwise, it would not be a problem to tell the truth. When a truth was being hidden and it was not being brought into the public light, and suddenly a filmmaker comes up with those stories which were always being kept hidden, it is bound to make people uncomfortable. I was prepared.”

“But making the film was much more difficult. We worked for almost 10 years in Kerala for the research part of it. We travelled each and every district of Kerala. I remember once we were staying at this place where we got to know that our hotel could be attacked. So, in the middle of the night, we ran away from that place. So, research and post-research making of the film is difficult,” recalled the director.

‘Watch the film’

Sen felt that with the honour, the film had finally got due credit. “It is a surreal feeling,” admitted the filmmaker.

He also said he welcomed criticism of the film from those who had watched it.

“I was very happy with the criticism from the people who watched the film. Unfortunately, many people who did not see the film, like many politicians from my state in Bengal, who did not see the film, but criticised it were a major problem.”

While Sen was happy with the honour, he felt his team also deserved honour for the film. “The team worked very hard to make this film. They deserved to win, too. I would have been very surprised if the film had won the Best Film Award. Adah Sharma was deserving of an acting award,” the director said.

The director promised he would reply to all the criticism, especially to the Kerala CM. “He is a senior. I would love to talk to him when he watches the film. I hope that happens.”
