Oh God, please forgive them! This is the first thought that comes to mind after watching Sidharth Malhotra's The Vvann: Force of the Forrest, which is backed by Ekta Kapoor. For context, in Indian cinema, religion and its gods have always played a very crucial role, to the point that films like Jai Santoshi Maa, which has popularised the goddess to an unimaginable extent. And, for a long time, even now, Indian audiences have been enjoying it, with movies heavily relying on faith, folklore and mythological stories.

In this film, things have surely gone out of hand, with every scene, dialogue, and song seemingly around religion, as if you are watching an extended version of Gulshan Kumar's 90s video of a devotional song. But the only difference here is the impressive camerawork, which is complimented with a team of good-looking actors.

The Vvaan: Story lost in its own jungle

Like any other film, the movie opens with a heroic scene featuring Sidharth Malhotra, who plays Rishi, showing off his skills as he saves a child and a group of workers from a JCB that has malfunctioned. And as expected, our hero saves them.

Still from Vvaan

Then the music plays, and in a heroic moment, water splashes on the Shivling. So, yeah, that was the entry we got to see, followed by a beautiful, truly soothing song with the sweet and lovely couple (Malhotra as Rishi and Tamannaah Bhatia as Mamta) dancing, and after this warm-up, the movie actually begins.

Rishi and Mamta are living in Mumbai, and there only dream is to have a child. To solve a property matter and also to celebrate Chhath, the couple goes back to their town, Devanchal, where there is a forest called Dev Van, and a goddess called Vann Devi, who is protecting the village from bad omens and demons. Atheist Rishi returns to his village and is quick to question the villagers and their belief in superstitions, which has become a hindrance to development, as their only fear is supernatural forces. How Rishi breaks this centuries-old curse of the jungle forms the rest of the story.

Vvann: It's Ekta Kapoor's world on the big screen.

From the very first frame, the over-fictionalised setting of the film feels artificial, with the sets looking staged and unrealistic. Despite this, the beginning starts on a promising note, before things only get worse. Stories around forest legends and their folklore have time and again inspired films that have impressed viewers, but director Deepak Kumar Mishra’s take on the theme feels distant and is mostly overburdened by dramatisation of religion, beliefs, and stories, to the point that it felt like I was watching Ekta Kapoor’s famous hit show Naagin, or even Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. The two-hour-long film has several scenes that give you déjà vu of daily soaps, whether it's Shweta Tiwari's shouting sequence in the hospital, the Chhath festival sequence, or even the climax where Rishi stops his wife from participating in the fast. Then there's Tamannaah's monologue, followed by yet another festival sequence where the heroine drowns, and the hero saves her. All these inputs seem like they have come directly from Kapoor's world of daily soaps.

The narration feels like a cut-and-paste of many past films. At one point, I felt I was watching Rishab Shetty’s Kantara; the very next moment, I was in S.S. Rajamouli’s RRR or Baahubali universe, with a pinch of Kajol’s Maa thrown in and also Stree, and there are a few other names I am definitely forgetting. In the film, there is a scene, where Rishi, who is an atheist, walks in front of the goddess’s temple, a very Deewaar-coded moment (that scene is iconic in Indian cinema). Amid all the comical dialogues and scenes, the only part I enjoyed was Paul as Ved. Suniel Grover's turn as the villain looks promising, until he gets those spidey-like black eyes.

With the amount of money invested in the film, the camera work and production design make the movie look grand and visually polished. The scale is evident on screen, and technically, the film creates moments of spectacle that briefly lift the otherwise wafer-thin narrative. In the first half, the combination of mythology with folklore genuinely excites the curious viewer. But soon, as the layers of the story start to unravel, all that remains is melodrama. Malhotra truly carries the film with his performance and does everything he possibly could for it, and so do the other actors. Tamannaah brings her charm, but her role is limited so she don't have much to serve.

To put it briefly, Vvaan is very much set in Ekta Kapoor's Tulsi Virani-style world, where Sidharth makes his debut as the divine hero. But he fails to carry the film on charm alone.

Sidharth Malhotra and Tamannaah Bhatia shoulder the responsibility of saving the world of The Vvaan, which impresses with its presentation despite a plot heavily inspired by Ekta Kapoor's TV universe.

Ever so often, Bollywood wants to speak the language of the youth. However, in an attempt to address their issues and growing pains, the industry often ends up stereotyping Gen Z and making them look superfluous. In Don’t Be Shy, director Sriti Mukerji attempts to tell a Gen Z story, but sets it in the early 2000s and delivers a very run-of-the-mill, coming-of-age campus tale. While it begins on a promising note, the film eventually becomes predictable and rather silly by the end.

Produced by Alia Bhatt and Shaheen Bhatt, Don’t Be Shy introduces fresh faces to the film industry.
Final Verdict

The film would have benefited had the director focused more on female friendship and Shy’s ambition to achieve her dreams on her own merit, rather than relying on a rich boy's status. That would have yielded a refreshing coming-of-age story that Gen Z could truly resonate with. Instead, the current plot makes Gen Z look rather superficial—which they are not.

Don’t Be Shy isn't a bad film; it is well-intended and backed by a solid lead cast who know their craft well. Its main flaw is that it plays it too safe and succumbs to predictability.

Don’t Be Shy is now streaming on Amazon Prime Video.

Don't Be Shy, backed by Alia Bhatt and Shaheen Bhatt, and directed by Sriti Mukerji, tells the story of an ambitious and controlling Shy. While the film is well-intended, the makers never go the extra mile to tell an effective story.

Ivanka attended the event alongside her 15-year-old daughter, Arabella Kushner, who wore a white belted midi dress from the London-based fashion label Self-Portrait. Ivanka and Arabella were seated prominently during the ceremony, alongside Vice President JD Vance and his wife, Usha Vance. The positioning also attracted attention, as several senior members of the Trump administration were seated farther back.
What happened between Ed Sheeran and Macklemore?

Macklemore was removed from Ed Sheeran's US Loop Tour in September 2026 after leading pro-Palestinian chants and performing his protest song "Hind's Hall" at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. On September 4–5, 2026, Macklemore used his stage time during the opening set to voice support for Palestinian liberation and address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Pro-Israel advocacy groups and stadium owners—led by New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft—objected to the political speech and reportedly gave an ultimatum threatening to lock Sheeran out of major venues if Macklemore remained on the lineup.

Also Read: Ed Sheeran breaks down at Philadelphia show amid Macklemore tour fallout

Messina Touring Group, the tour promoter, dropped Macklemore from the remaining US dates. Ed Sheeran released a statement clarifying that the removal was the promoter's call rather than his own, stating he wanted to protect the tour for his crew and fans. In solidarity with Macklemore, all other opening and supporting acts—including Finneas, Lukas Graham, Beoga, and Aaron Rowe—subsequently dropped out of the tour.

Ed Sheeran later addressed the crowd emotionally at a Philadelphia concert, admitting he made mistakes handling the intense backlash, while Macklemore announced a dedicated "Free Palestine Tour" with proceeds going to Palestinian organisations.

All about Macklemore

Macklemore is an American rapper and activist from Seattle known for his catchy hooks, independent spirit and socially conscious music. He started recording music as a teenager in 2000, first going by the name "Professor Macklemore" before dropping the title.
The Paradise movie review: Nani's latest ambitious film, The Paradise, had given high hopes to fans as the makers did not unveil the trailer before the film was released, but did it manage to live up to that curiosity? Directed by Srikanth Odela, this is their second film together after Dasara. Packed with action and drama, the film revolves around a marginalised group living in an area named Paradise without proper recognition. Their lives are controlled by a powerful man who treats the community as his property.

On paper, The Paradise has got everything: a powerful story, revenge, rebellion, and what not, but watching the film in theatres is a test of patience.

Plot of The Paradise

Set in the 1980s, The Paradise follows the Savaari community, which has lived without proper legal recognition for decades. They work under the control of a ruthless man, Shikanja Maalik, played by Mohan Babu.

Sammakka (Sonali Kulkarni) is among those who demand an identity for the community. Her son Jadal, Nani's character, however, grows up with a deep resentment towards his mother. Since his childhood, he has seen humiliation and violence.

Also Read: Nani clarifies Bengaluru Court order restraining defamatory content does not target genuine movie reviews

The Paradise movie review

As a child, Jadal becomes involved in an incident that eventually lands him in prison. Fourteen years later, he returns to Paradise to take revenge on Maalik. He initially has his own reasons for opposing his mother and her fight for the community, but circumstances gradually change.

The film also features Raghav Juyal as Vikram Malik, the son of Maalik, who wants to enter politics to create an identity independent of his father's shadow.

While Kayadu Lohar's Subbalakshmi, or Subbu, is introduced showcasing a different purpose, she eventually becomes involved with Jadal.

Without revealing too much, what follows is Jadal taking up the larger fight for his people.

What works

Nani is the strongest aspect of The Paradise. From his physical transformation to changed body language, his commitment is clearly visible. He approaches Jadal with intensity, including in the action sequences.

However, much of his role is around anger and violence, leaving less space for emotional material.

Also Read: Nani was already a fan of Raghav Juyal before The Paradise

The film's production design and cinematography appear convincing, as the 1980s Paradise setting has a dark, rough and oppressive visual identity. The action and landscape sequences are given the required scale for a film of this magnitude.

No doubt, the large-scale action sequences deliver what they are meant to do, but the issue is that there are simply too many of them.

Apart from Nani, Mohan Babu also has the screen presence required to play Shikanja Maalik, but the screenplay does not make enough use of him.

Coming to songs, only Aaya Sher works well.

What doesn't work

The biggest problem with The Paradise is not its ambition, but the screenplay. The first half establishes an interesting story around Jadal's troubled relationship with his mother and his conflict with Maalik, but soon, it loses its grip.

Jadal's revenge then becomes one fight scene after another. Just when the story appears ready to conclude, another conflict begins.

The nearly three-hour runtime becomes particularly difficult to sit through as the film repeatedly makes the same dramatic points.

Also Read: Bengaluru court restrains defamatory content against Nani's The Paradise ahead of release

Additionally, The Paradise is extremely violent, not only in the fight scenes, but also in certain scenes involving pregnant women.

The second half feels unnecessarily stretched as the film keeps adding layers after the central conflict has already been established.

Kayadu Lohar plays Subbu, but her character is given very little meaningful development, and often feels disconnected from the main story. Her story with Jadal also becomes predictable.

Raghav Juyal Vikram, meanwhile, had an interesting idea, but the character largely works as another obstacle for Jadal.

Even Mohan Babu's character is sidelined for considerable portions despite building him as the main antagonist.

A few scenes that are clearly intended to be touching can instead feel awkward or unintentionally funny.

Also Read: The Paradise: Nani confirms no trailer ahead of action drama’s release, explains why

The most irritating thing was the unclear dialogue delivery in several scenes. During the noisy action portions, certain lines are difficult to hear. The background score can also feel excessively loud.

Verdict

The Paradise has almost all the ingredients for a powerful action drama: a strong cast, a community fighting for recognition, revenge and plenty of action. But instead of using these elements effectively, the film keeps adding more ideas, characters and subplots until it becomes exhausting to watch.

Nani has given his all to the role, while Mohan Babu also makes his character, Maalik, intimidating. However, the screenplay ends up undermining many of these strengths.

While the film makes you believe that something powerful is cooking, the story keeps getting stretched.

If you are planning to watch The Paradise, only go for the good performances, striking visuals and Nani, as the writing makes sitting through the film feel much longer than it actually is.

The Paradise film review: The Paradise, starring Nani, was released on Thursday, marking the actor's reunion with director Srikanth Odela. Packed with ambitious action, a powerful cast and drama, the film has too much going on for the audience to take in.

Plot of The Paradise Set in the 1980s, The Paradise follows the Savaari community, which has lived without proper legal recognition for decades. It was a magical experience in a movie theater. And it was a magical experience for two Comic Book fans from Cleveland, Ohio, who as kids dreamed of telling stories that made people leap out of their seats with excitement.
