Taylor Swift’s concerts in Vienna have been cancelled amid an Islamist terror attack plot that police say they have been able to foil positively. The concerts were scheduled to take place at Ernst Happel Stadium. Police have successfully nabbed two men who were involved in the planning of the attacks.
Confirming the cancellation, Barracuda Music, an event organiser said, "With confirmation from government officials of a planned terrorist attack at Ernst Happel Stadium, we have no choice but to cancel the three scheduled shows for everyone’s safety.” The same message was reposted by Taylor Nation, an Instagram account run by Taylor Swift’s team.
According to the post, all tickets will be refunded and ticket holders can visit a website to request refunds.
The cancellation of the three concerts is now also flashing on Taylor Swift’s website. The Vienna shows under the "tour" tab now have a note accompanying the date and location information. A message for the fans reads,"*All tickets will be automatically refunded within the next 10 business days.”
Taylor Swift is yet to respond to the latest development.
Meanwhile, Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer shared his disappointment over the cancellations and said the situation was serious. He thanked officials for identifying the threat early and preventing what could have been a tragedy.
The Austrian police have arrested two suspects connected to Taylor Swift’s concert terrorist plot. One of the men who was arrested was a 19-year-old who is alleged to have pledged his allegiance to ISIS, Vienna State Police Director Franz Ruf and Police Chief Gerhard Pürstl said at a news conference.
