Story highlights

A report has surfaced that Meghan Markle, who was in consideration for a role in Guy Ritchie's The Gentlemen, has been withdrawn. Read more to know the reason behind the decision.

Meghan Markle’s possible involvement in Guy Ritchie's Netflix show The Gentlemen emerged only recently, with reports saying she was being considered for a role if the series returned for a third season. But the potential return to acting of Markle has hit a setback. The report suggests that the casting has now been withdrawn following reported backlash in the UK.

Why was Meghan Markle dropped from consideration for The Gentlemen?

In a column published on Substack recently, Brown, the former editor-in-chief of Vanity Fair and The New Yorker, wrote, “I learned this morning that the casting of Meghan Markle in season 3 of Guy Ritchie’s Netflix series The Gentlemen has been withdrawn. The backlash in the UK was so intense, it became untenable to go forward. This does not bode well for Meghan’s acting comeback in the UK.”

Brown's account comes shortly after news of Markle's possible involvement emerged, meaning the proposed casting appears to have been at a very preliminary stage. Importantly, Netflix has not officially announced Markle as part of the cast, and a third season of The Gentlemen itself has not yet been formally renewed. The claim that the casting was withdrawn comes from Brown's report, while representatives for Markle, Ritchie and Netflix have not publicly confirmed the development.
