Machine Gun Kelly is opening up about his journey to sobriety, revealing that he spent time in rehab last year. During an appearance on Bunnie Xo's podcast, Dumb Blonde, on Monday(Aug5), the "Emo Girl" artist, 34, candidly discussed his struggles with alcohol and substance abuse and shared that he is now "completely sober from everything."
"I don't drink anymore. I haven't drank since last August," said MGK, whose real name is Colson Baker. He added, "That was my first time I ever went to rehab."
Before seeking help, the musician admitted to abusing alcohol, marijuana, and prescription pills, including hydrocodone, Percocet, and Vyvanse. His road to recovery has been challenging, but MGK credits his partner, Megan Fox, 38, with playing a crucial role in his journey.
"Megan has for sure been extremely helpful in dealing with the kind of psychological withdrawals that come with getting off drugs," he said.
MGK also reflected on the emotional toll of his recovery process. "I continue to embrace that this journey is gonna be hard for me, but I accept it and forgive myself," he explained. "I'm also really hard on myself, very self-deprecating. I’m just happy that I’m able to start to be comfortable enough to show people who I am because I kind of depended on my art to do that."
The conversation on the podcast turned lighthearted when Bunnie recounted challenging MGK to a drinking contest with her husband, Jelly Roll, without knowing he was sober. MGK joked about the incident, saying, "It just kills me because I just know I would have f***ing drank that man under the table."
MGK and Fox started dating in 2020. The pair announced their engagement on January 12, 2022. However, in March this year, Fox revealed that they ended their engagement sometime in 2023.
During an appearance on Alex Cooper's Call Her Daddy podcast, she said, "I don't have a comment on the status of the relationship, per se. What I can say is [he] is what I refer to as being my ‘twin soul’ and there will always be a tether to him, no matter what."
