It hasn’t been easy since the past few weeks for actor and content creator Kusha Kapila as she was roasted by her peers at a comedy show. While she did know that she was to sit through a roast, she had no idea that it would be as such – from divorce jokes to infidelity and much more. Kusha’s fan club has been asking for the video to be removed from all platforms, but the actress has stood strong in all this.
Recently while promoting her upcoming feature Life Hill Gayi with Mirzapur actor Divyenndu, Kusha was again asked to address the “controversial” roast that has stoked quite a debate on the internet. The said roast was a part of Aashish Solanki’s Pretty Good Roast Show on YouTube, in which stand-up comedians like Samay Raina, Aaditya Kulshreshth, Shreya Priyam Roy, and Gurleen Pannu cracked jokes on her. The most shocking jokes were obviously around her divorce with longtime partner Zohrawar Singh Ahluwalia and how she cheated her way through to fame.
Kusha Kapila says some jokes 'dehumanised me'
Kusha Kapila has now issued a statement, in which she clarified her stance on the roast. She said that her female and queer friends have been urging her to call out the video. In reply to her fans, she started her statement with, “It was done in good faith and for a friend. Nobody has been paid (neither comics nor guests) for it so argument that people are ‘being paid big fat cheques to hear their insults’ is baseless.”
“I had no idea what was in store for me. Maybe I should have asked for a script and known better but since friends were involved I didn’t. Rookie mistake. While I endured some of the really raspy jokes in front of a live audience and technicians, I absolutely was not okay for it to play for millions of people since some jokes straight up dehumanised me. It was shockingly unkind,” she added.
'Would have been called a coward': Kusha
On why she let the episode go air, Kusha said, “If I hadn’t let the episode go live, I would have been called a coward and a crybaby and a different kind of trolling would have ensued. Over the course of last six months during negotiations, I have been told that I deserve these jokes and that as a divorced woman I should have seen this coming. Maybe I should have and maybe silence on this topic is seen as cowardice but it’s mostly choosing peace over endless discourse that will likely villainise women.”
'Won't do it again': Kusha
Kusha also made clear that this roast comedy is over for her. She said that it was the third roast she was a part of as a comic and she will “never sit for one again lol at least not without knowing what may come for me.” She added, “The previous two roasts were a wonderful experience. This, too, would have been if all parties involved were aware what may come for them.”

Concluding her statement, the actress added, “I take pride in the fact that I didn’t stage a walkout and after what was thrown at me, I found the gumption to still perform.”
On the work front, Kusha Kapila will be next seen in Life Hill Gayi.
