Things have started to become all murky as divorce proceedings between Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez will soon begin. As Jennifer Lopez filed for divorce on August 20, a judge has now been assigned to the case who does nothave a very clean chit.
Reports suggest that the judge has ties to her soon-to-be ex-husband Ben Affleck and former fiance, Alex Rodriguez.
A judge named Bradley S Phillips has been assigned to the Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez's high-profile divorce case. As for how they are related, Bradley Phillips’ son-in-law Strand Conover is Ben Affleck and A-Rod’s agent.
Conover is a partner and agent at WME, the bigwig talent agency with the Oscar-winning actor and retired Yankee. He’s also on the team representing Ben Affleck. Conover also knows Jennifer Lopez through Ben affleck so it’s all in the family, some say.
While you would think that this should have hampered his chances at landing this case, the judge insists that it’s not a conflict of interest in their divorce. He insists that he would be fair and impartial regarding Bennifer’s divorce.
In a TMZ report, Judge Phillips disclosed that his son-in-law is the ex-ball player’s brand-partnership agent at WME. The judge also revealed that he hadn’t discussed the case or any news about Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck’s split with his son-in-law and promised not to disclose any details about the ongoing divorce.
Their high-profile divorce could be a legal mess if either parties think of meddling and not letting the divorce go through. Insiders claim that the former couple did not sign up for a prenup and without it all their earnings, assets, profits they made during their union could be considered community property and not the individual’s.
Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck started seeing cracks in their relationship towards the second year of marriage. Even though the divorce filing happened on August 20, JLo in her filing claims that they separated in April. Apparently, Ben Affleck was a bit too “dark and moody” for Jennifer. One insider shared that the singer spent “a lot of time making sure Ben was happy and had everything he needed.”
