Ranveer Singh-Alia Bhatt-Kalki Koechlin starrer ‘Gully Boy’ saw its makers release the first teaser of the film and we are simply bowled over.
The video does a fine job at introducing the characters of the trio and offers a sneak peek into the chemistry shared by them. Ranveer’s character has that of the “voice of the streets” who raps throughout the teaser, telling the fans that they will introduce India to the concept of “asli (real) hip hop”. Ranveer lives in a slum of Mumbai, where he hones his skill of a rapper -- reflected through his lyrics that tell the story of his real problems and mundane life. Then there’s some romance between Ranveer and Alia and then Ranveer and Kalki. We wonder who he will end up with or if with any at all!
‘Gully Boy’ is also based on the lives of real people, particularly the rapper Divine, who is one of the most popular voices to emerge from the Mumbai rap scene. The film is named after one of his songs, and Ranveer’s rap suggests that it will borrow elements from his life, as well - in particular, Divine’s relationship with his mother.

In an earlier interview to a daily, Divine had praised Ranveer’s performance in the film. “Ranveer is the man,” Divine said. “He’s the best man to do the movie and he’s killed it.”
Directed by Zoya Akhtar, ‘Gully Boy’ is co-produced by her brother, Farhan and is scheduled for a February 14 release.
