Indian classical singer Pandit Chhannulal Mishra is no more. The veteran singer passed away on Oct 2 after prolonged illness. He was 89. He breathed his last at around 4 am at his daughter’s house in Uttar Pradesh’s Mirzapur.
As per the reports, the vocalist had been admitted at Ramakrishna Mission Hospital and was under doctor's observation for over two weeks now. He has been suffering from age-related ailments and was recently admitted to hospital after suffering a minor heart attack.
Mishra’s daughter Namrata Mishra told PTI, “He was admitted to the hospital for the last 17-18 days with age related issues. He passed away at home this morning at around 4 am.”

Chhannulal Mishra is a renowned figure of the Indian classical music. Soon after the news of his passing away broke, tributes started pouring in. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also paid tribute to late musician along with the photos with them together.

It is my good fortune that I always received his affection and blessings. In the year 2014, he was also my proposer from the Varanasi seat. In this hour of grief, I express my deepest condolences to his family and admirers. Om Shanti!”he wrote in a post on X.
His last rites will be performed with full state honours at Manikarnika Ghat, Varanasi on Thursday evening.
Pandit Chhannulal Mishra's musical legacy
Born on Aug 3, 1936, in Hariharpur in the Azamgarh district of Uttar Pradesh, Mishra's got his early music training from his father, and then he went on to study at Banaras gharana school. He got the training of music under guidance of Ustad Abdul Ghani Khan of the 'Kirana Gharana'.
In his career, he won several prestigious awards sich as Shiromani Award of Sur Singar Sansad, Bombay; the Uttar Pradesh Sangeet Natak Akademi Award; the Naushad Award of U.P. Govt. He was bestowed with the Padma Bhushan, India's third highest civilian honour and Padma Vibhushan, India's second highest civilian award.
The legendary singer is survived by four daughters and a son.
