‘Shabaash Mithu’ trailer: Taapsee Pannu as Mithali Raj looks like a promising tale of grit and determination

Taapsee Pannu’s highly anticipated film of 2022, 'Shabaash Mithu’s'trailer was unveiled by the makers today. The 2.44-minute-longtrailer narrates an inspiring story of the struggles and successes of legendary Indian cricketer Mithali Raj, who recently retired from the game.

In the opening scenes of the trailer, Taapsee, who is playing the role of Mithali, can be seen on the pitch hitting sixes and fours while we can hear people shouting and cheering for India in the background. It quickly shifts to Mithali's childhood, a young Tamilian girl who is caught off guard when she catches a ball hit by her older brother. Gradually, her skill is recognised by Vijay Raaz, a coach. He encourages her family to let her play. Mithali’s family accepts it, and she begins her training. However, the journey is not easy for Mithali. Mithali’s cricket journey, from her, practises to becoming the captain of the team India, offers an emotional watch.

It's inspiring to see how she rises above all obstacles and even raises her voice to demand that the female cricketers be given team jerseys with their own names on them instead of the male players.

In the trailer, Taapsee can be heard saying: "Men in Blue ki tarha humari bhi ek team hogi, women in Blue" (Just like men in Blue, we will also have a team called "Women in Blue"). The film appears to have some really powerful dialogues, which will undoubtedly give the audience goosebumps in the face of danger.

Apart from Taapsee Pannu, the film also stars Vijay Raaz and Mumtaz Sorcar as Jhulan Goswami. directed by Srijit Mukherjee, 'Shabaash Mithu' is slated to hit the theatres on July 15, 2022.

Mithali Raj too took to her Instagram handle to share the trailer but had a different caption for it. She wrote, "One game, One nation, One ambition... My Dream! Grateful to the team and excited to share my story with you all! Check out the #ShabaashMithuTrailer#GirlWhoChangedTheGame".

Former national cricket team captain Sourav Ganguly also shared the trailer on Twitter.

Earlier, Taapsee had lauded Mithali, saying that she changed the game of cricket, which was only known as a man’s sport. "There are cricketers who have records under their name. There are cricketers who have tremendous fan following. There are cricketers who inspire you and make you believe that if they can, so can you! And then there's Mithali who did all of this in her classic graceful style and also changed the game of cricket where the presence of women in concerned."
