In her recent interview, Esha revealed that her father Dharmendra was rightfully orthodox and didn't want Esha to work in the movies.

Speaking to Hauterrfly, Esha said, "He didn’t want that I should enter the movies. He is a bit orthodox, rightfully so. He is a Punjabi father.''

Revealing that the veteran actor wanted her to get married at a very young age, she said, "He [Dharmendra] wanted that we should get married, settle down at 18. That is his conditioning, he is coming from a place where all the women in his house were brought up that way."

Talking further, Esha said that her mother Hema Malini has had a huge influence on her life since childhood. "But my upbringing was very different. I had seen my mother dance and act in films ever since I was a child, so I was influenced by that. I knew I wanted to be someone, but it took a while to convince him. It was not easy, but today is a different story,” she said.

During the same conversation, Deol said that she had very strict rules in her family and was not allowed to wear short skirts.

“My (maternal) grandmother was very strict. We were not allowed to wear spaghettis and short skirts and go out. We were not allowed many late nights,” added Esha.

Adding further, she said, “There was a phase where I would lie to go out on late nights. I have done all of that. It’s not like I haven’t done that, and it used to be fun, too.”
