Christopher McDonald, known for his role as Shooter McGavin in the 1996 sports comedy Happy Gilmore, revealed some exciting news during an interview on Audacy's 92.3 The Fan. According to McDonald, Adam Sandler is currently working on a sequel to the beloved film, nearly 30 years after its release. The best part is that thefirst draft of Happy Gilmore 2is reportedly ready to go on the floors.
During the interview, McDonald shared that Sandler had shown him the first draft of the sequel about two weeks ago, saying, "McDonald, you're gonna love this." While McDonald urged listeners to take the news with a grain of salt to avoid being labelled a liar, he expressed confidence that the long-awaited sequel was indeed in the works, stating, "Fans demand it, dammit!"
Reports suggest that the project is likely attached to Netflix, as Sandler and his production company, Happy Madison Productions, have a longstanding deal with the streaming platform. However, Netflix is yet to confirm these speculations.
Happy Gilmore, directed by Dennis Dugan, has become a cult classic over the years and is one of Sandler's most iconic films. The title of Sandler's production company, Happy Madison Productions, is even a nod to Happy Gilmoreand another of his popular films, Billy Madison.
