Ranji Trophy 2024-25: Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant included in Delhi's probables list

India’s star batter Virat Kohli has been included in Delhi’s probable list for the upcoming Ranji Trophy season which kicks off on October 11. In an announcement on Wednesday (Sep 25), Virat was named in the 84-man list for the Ranji Trophy season for the first time since 2019. He is not the only star included in the probables, with Rishabh Pant also being in the list for the premier domestic competition.

Virat, Pant in Ranji Trophy squad

The list of probables, released on Wednesday, will later get trimmed to a 15-man squad which will compete for the title. While Virat's name figures on the list, he is unlikely to get to play for the seven-time champions. One of the key reasons for his exclusion will be the Australian tour which will take place later in November.

Virat’s commitments with the Indian team and a prolonged tour of Australia coupled with the Champions Trophy in February and March could see him skip the Ranji Trophy group stage.

Reflecting on the knockout stage, he could be rested or either be part of the Indian team for their series against England.

The same goes for Pant, who unlike Virat will be playing in all three formats for India which could see his involvement in the side get limited. He also played in the Delhi Premier League (DPL) recently but was not committed to the side with Duleep Trophy commitments.

The probable squad also includes Yash Dhull, Navdeep Saini, Anuj Rawat and other rising names from the domestic format.

Interestingly, Ishant Sharma’s journey with the Delhi side is all but over having been dropped from the probables. He has been out of favour from the Indian side since 2021 and could have already played his last competitive red-ball game in professional cricket.
