Inspired by MS Dhoni, Kedar Jadhav announces retirement from all forms of cricket

Kedar Jadhav has retired from all forms of cricket, the all-rounder announced on Monday (Jun 3) in a social media post. The Maharashtra batter posted a message that was somewhat reminiscent of MS Dhoni's retirement announcement to call time on his international and domestic career.

“Thank you all For your love and support throughout my Career from 1500 hrs. Consider me as retired from all forms of cricket,” Jadhav announced in a social media post, alongside a Kishore Kumar song.

Dhoni had similarly shocked his fans on August 15, 2020 when he announced his retirement with a two-line statement on his Instagram profile, a year after he played his last international game for India -- at the 2019 World Cup in England.

Kedar Jadhav's playing career

Jadhav played 73 ODIs and nine T20Is for India between 2014 and 2020. He last donned the Indian jersey back in 2020 against New Zealand in Auckland.

Throughout his brief yet entertaining international career, the 39-year-old came lower down the order and smashed the white-leather effortlessly whilst also rolling over his arms whenever the captain demanded.

Jadhav was a key part of the India squad that reached the 2019 World Cup semi-final in England before the heartbreak against New Zealand stopped the men-in-blue's excellent run.

Jadhav's biggest moment in international cricket came during the ODI match against England in Pune in January 2017 when he scored his second century in the format. Chasing a daunting target of 351, Jadhav joined forces with Virat Kohli when the scoreboard wore a perilous look at 63/4.

Jadhav smashed a brutal 76-ball 120-run knock, laced with 12 fours and four sixes to fire India to a three-wicket win. At one point, Jadhav outshone Kohli (122) as India achieved the impossible target.

In the Indian Premier League (IPL), Jadhav featured for several franchises including Delhi Capitals, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Kochi Tuskers Kerala (Defunct) and Chennai Super Kings. In the 95IPL matches, Jadhav scored 1208 runs with a strike rate of 123.14 - hitting four half-centuries in the process.

The talented all-rounder was last seen in action in a competitive match earlier this year when he featured for Maharashtra against Vidarbha in a Ranji Trophy game in Pune. Jadhav displayed his fine form by accumulating 379 runs in fivematches including a hundred and a fifty in Maharashtra's 2023-24 Ranji Trophy campaign.
