
Despite the criticism and poor show in the Test format, Pakistan selection committee has retained faith in Shan Masood as the skipper of the side. In the 15-man squad announced for the first Test match, Pakistan will field an experienced squad consisting of Aamer Jamal, who returns after sustaining a back injury. Noman Ali is also given the nod in the side after having missed the Bangladesh series as Pakistan look to get back on track in the red-ball format.
With England visiting the Asian side who have been on a barren run of 10 Test matches without a win on home turf, Pakistan have shown faith in proven quality. Saud Shakeel will be the vice-captain of the side with Sarfaraz Ahmed being the wicketkeeping option. Former Test skipper Babar Azam has also retained his place in the side, while ShaheenShah Afridi, who missed one of the Test matches against Bangladesh, also keeps his place intact.
The hosts have been winless in their last 10 matches on home turf, losing six matches and drawing four. During this period, they have suffered losses to Australia and England and drew against New Zealand on home turf. However, the side’s biggest embarrassment was in the Bangladesh series where they were beaten comprehensively.

Pakistan despite declaring in the first innings of the first Test against Bangladesh lost the match while in the second Test, they had the visitors at 27/6 in the first innings but again ended up losing.
The first Test match against England will be played in Multan and will start on October 7.
