Former South Africa batter AB de Villers believes that India skipper Rohit Sharma will not be moving from Mumbai Indians (MI) to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). Rohit is a hot topic of discussion ahead of the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) mega auction scheduled for December.
The whole drama started before IPL 2024 when Rohit was replaced by Hardik Pandya as Mumbai Indians skipper. It is to be noted that MI have won five IPL titles under Rohit's captaincy. To add more, MI finished nearly lowest in the IPL 2024 under Pandya while Rohit led India to T20 World Cup victory right after the cash-rich league.

"I almost laughed at the Rohit comment. That will be quite a story if Rohit moves from Mumbai Indians to RCB. Wow! Imagine the headlines. It will be bigger than Hardik Pandya's move. He moved from Gujarat Titans back to Mumbai, which although wasn't big a surprise. But if Rohit moves from Mumbai to join his rivals in RCB...oh my god! I don't think there is an option there. I don't see a possibility of MI leaving Rohit. I will give that zero or 0.1 per cent chance," De Villiers said during a session on his YouTube channel.
With the new retention rules out, the franchise have till October 31 to finalize the list of players they want to retain ahead of the mega auction in December.
"It is at the discretion of the IPL franchise to choose their combination for retentions and RTMs," the IPL release said. "The six retentions/RTMs can have a maximum of five capped players and a maximum of two uncapped players."
With Rohit being part of MI for long, it will be interesting to see if the franchise let the Indian skipper go for the young talent.
