US gives green signal to 'sensor' pill to track patient's medication

Taking a significant step in the field of healthcare and technology, United States has given approval for a "digital pill".
The pill, with an embedded sensor, will track patients timings in while taking medicines.
Before thisOtsuka Pharmaceutical Co Ltd's established drug Abilify, equipped with sensors was given approval in 2012.
The new drug contains a tracking device developed by Proteus Digital Health.
Proteus was working on the pill for many years.The drug will help doctors in monitoring if their patients are taking their medicines on time.

The sensor, which is about the size of a grain of salt, gets activated when it gets wet from stomach juices. It has a coating of copper and magnesium on either side which generates a tiny electric charge.
