Taking a significant step in the field of healthcare and technology, United States has given approval for a &quot;digital pill&quot;.

The pill, with an embedded sensor, will track patients timings in while taking medicines.

Before this&nbsp;Otsuka Pharmaceutical Co Ltd&#39;s established drug Abilify, equipped with sensors was given approval in 2012.&nbsp;

The new drug contains a tracking device developed by Proteus Digital Health.&nbsp;

Proteus was working on the pill for many years.&nbsp;The drug will help doctors in monitoring if their patients are taking their medicines on time.&nbsp;

The system sends a message from the pill&#39;s sensor to a wearable patch.

The message then transmits the information to a mobile application following which injestion&nbsp;of the medication is tracked on smartphones.&nbsp;

The sensor, which is about the size of a grain of salt, gets activated when it gets wet from stomach juices. It has a coating of copper and magnesium on either side which generates a tiny electric charge.&nbsp;
