In the 41st annual general meeting of the Reliance Industries held today in Mumbai, chairman of the company Mukhesh Ambanilaunched the updated version of the Jio Phone which is expected to hit the market in August.
The new cell phone called Jio Phone 2 willprovide access toWhatsApp, Facebook, Youtube to its users andwill be available at a price of Rs 2,999.
While addressing the meeting Ambani said, "We have more than 25 million Jio Phone users in India. We are now taking the Jio Phone to the next level, with added capabilities and functionalities. Jio has fastest speed data, widest network in India".
He further said, "Since I last spoke, we have doubled our [Jio] customer base to over 215 million now. 215 million customers within 22 months of start is a record that no technology company has been able to achieve anywhere in the world".
"As our Golden Decade rolls on, our consumer businesses will contribute nearly as much to the overall earnings of your company as our energy and petrochemical businesses".
He said, "Starting 15th August, we have another exciting offer for common Indians. They can purchase our Jiophone2 at an introductory price of only Rs 2,999".
"With the added functionalities and strong retail presence across India, the goal that I have now set for our Jio team is to enable 100 million users on this Jio Phone platform in the shortest possible time and create another world record". "Jio has enabled Reliance to strategically reinvent itself as a Technology Platform Company. Digital platforms have become the new-age factories and service providers", he said.
Besides the phone, theChairman and managing director of the Reliance Industries also introduceda new optical line based service called JioGiga Fibre.
Referring to the "JioGigaFibre" he said that theoptical line fixed fibre is the new future.
Ambani also said that his company had paid Rs 42,553 crores in Goods and Services Tax.
He further added that the profits of the Reliance industry grew by 20.6 per cent.
He said, "Our net profits grew by 20.6% to Rs 36,075 Crores. The company's consumer business, Jio and retail represents about 13% of consolidated EBITDA (Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization)"
The meeting was attended byMukesh Ambani, Nita Ambani, Anant Ambani and Isha Ambani.
