This strategic move comes after General Motors, Cadillac's parent company, revamped its European division and committed to an all-electric future. The Ultium platform, which underpins the Optiq, is a key part of this strategy. It also supports other electric vehicles from GM, including the Lyriq SUV and the Hummer EV off-roader.
The Optiq promises a luxurious electric driving experience. The top-of-the-line model boasts a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive powertrain generating 304PS and 480 Nm of torque. While official European specifications are yet to be revealed, the estimated range is a compelling 480 km on a single charge. Additionally, Cadillac claims the Optiq can add up to 130 km of range in just 10 minutes of fast charging.
The Optiq is designed with both performance and comfort in mind. Its size is comparable to the Mercedes-Benz EQC, but with a shorter wheelbase for increased agility. The exterior design prioritises aerodynamics with a cab-back silhouette, while the Black Crystal Grille with a laser-etched pattern adds a touch of Cadillac signature style. The use of laminated glass for the rear quarter panel further enhances the car's aesthetics.

Cadillac has pulled out all the stops for the Optiq's interior. The luxurious cabin features a massive 33-inch, 9K resolution horizontal LED display that integrates the digital driver's instrument cluster and Google-powered infotainment system. Passengers can also enjoy a premium 19-speaker sound system.
Safety is another major focus, with the Optiq featuring Cadillac's Super Cruise driver-assistance technology. This system includes features like a driver attention monitoring system, autonomous lane-changing capabilities, and a steering-wheel light bar to enhance safety and comfort during assisted driving.
Cadillac is committed to sustainable practices, evident in the Optiq's use of innovative and recycled materials. The accent fabric is made entirely from recycled materials, while the Paper Wood veneer incorporates tulip wood and recycled newspaper. Buyers can also choose between Luxury and Sport trims to personalise their Optiq experience.
While the starting price in the US is around USD 54,000, European pricing details haven't been announced yet. Regardless, the Cadillac Optiq marks a significant return for the brand and is set to shake up the European luxury electric SUV market later this year.
