The White House said on Monday (Jan 20) that Indian-American entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy will no longer co-lead the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) alongside billionaire Elon Musk, reported news agency Associated Press.
It comes after earlier media reports suggested that Vivek may have to exit DOGE to run for Ohio governor.
Washington Post newspaper had earlier reported that Vivek is expected to replace the term-limited Republican state leader Mike DeWine.
CBS News reported that the move to remove Vivek from DOGE may have been a "result of friction" between him and the incoming agency staff.
The US channel claimed some officials were frustrated with Vivek because of his "lack of participation in the heavy lifting."
A New York Times report had earlier claimed that Musk himself had been critical of Vivek in private conversations.

Vivek later took to X to confirm his exit from the DOGE, saying it was his honour to help support the creation of the new department.&nbsp;

A Muslim cleric who earlier refused to condemn Lebanon-based militant group Hezbollah didn't appear at the inauguration ceremony of US President Donald Trump on Monday (Jan 20). Earlier, it was reported that the cleric had been given an invitation for the mega event by the Trump team, which drew condemnation from several Trump loyalists.
Husham Al-Husainy, the imam of the Karbalaa Islamic Educational Center in Dearborn, Michigan, had reportedly been invited to deliver a benediction at the Jan 20 event.
US conservatives criticised this move by the Trump transition team as they believed the invitation to the Imam went against the values that President Trump stood for.
Al-Husainy's absence from the inauguration event indicated his invitation may have been scrapped by the Trump team altogether. A report by the New York Post suggested he was disinvited.&nbsp;
However, it is also possible that the Imam may have decided against attending the inauguration given the level of criticism he had faced at the hands of Trump supporters.
<h2>Why is Husham Al-Husainy controversial?</h2>
A report by Middle East Forum described Al-Husainy as &ldquo;a radical anti-Semitic, pro-Hezbollah Shia imam&rdquo; with &ldquo;a significant history of extremism.&rdquo;
In 2015, during a rally at the Karbalaa Islamic Educational Center, Al-Husainy reportedly wished death upon Saudi Arabia and dubbed the Saudis as &ldquo;agents of the Jews.&rdquo;

In 2007, the cleric delivered an address at the Democratic National Committee&rsquo;s winter meeting and allegedly suggested that US forces were &ldquo;oppressors and occupiers.&rdquo; Later, he clarified that he was not referring to US forces when he asked almighty God to &ldquo;help us to stop the war and violence, and oppression and occupation&rdquo;.
Later, during a TV show, Al-Husainy refused to admit that Hezbollah is a terrorist organisation, as designated by the US in 1997. &ldquo;Hezbollah is a Lebanese organisation. And I&rsquo;ve got nothing to do with that,&rdquo; the cleric said in response.

The official said that it would allow the military to "prioritise our borders and territorial integrity."
The order will direct the military to plan operations to maintain territorial integrity by "repelling forms of invasion, including unlawful mass migration, narcotics trafficking, human smuggling and trafficking, and other criminal activities", the official added.&nbsp;
The executive order will also aim to end the practice of "catch and release" and will mandate building a wall along the southern US border.&nbsp;

<h2>Man behind Southport stabbing to receive life term</h2>
The presiding judge, Justice Goose, announced plans to sentence Rudakubana on Thursday, where he&nbsp;is expected to receive a life term.
The victims of the attack included Alice da Silva Aguiar, aged nine, Bebe King, six, and Elsie Dot Stancombe, seven. Rudakubana also admitted to the attempted murder of eight other children and two adults.
On 29 July, the teenager travelled by taxi to the Hart Space, a community centre in Southport located roughly five miles from his home. During a dance class marking the beginning of the school holidays, Rudakubana launched a violent knife attack, leaving families and the local community devastated.
The tragedy sent shockwaves across the country, with riots erupting in its aftermath.
Addressing the court after Rudakubana entered his guilty pleas, Justice Goose stated, &ldquo;I am conscious of the fact the families are not here today. You have now pleaded guilty to this indictment and to each of the charges upon it."
&ldquo;You will understand it is inevitable the sentence to be imposed upon you will mean a life sentence equivalent will be imposed upon you. I will have to complete the sentencing process on that occasion.&rdquo;

An Indian man hailing from the city of Hyderabad, Telangana, was shot dead by unidentified assailants in the United States (US). A report by the news agency PTI on Monday (Jan 20) said that the victim was identified as 26-year-old K Ravi Teja.&nbsp;
Tejad had gone to the US in 2022 for his master's degree and was looking for a job. Teja suffered grievous bullet injuries and died on the spot in Washington.&nbsp;

Addressing a press conference, Teja's father said, "I have come to know that my son was shot dead. My appeal to the government is to send back the mortal remains as early as possible. I am not able to speak anything else."&nbsp;

In a post on X, the Consulate General of India, New York took note of the crime.
"Deeply saddened to learn about tragic demise of Mr Ravi Teja in shooting incident in New Haven, Connecticut" the consulate said, adding, that it was in touch with his family and is extending all possible assistance, including repatriation of his mortal remains to India.

There have been several incidents of Indian-origin students being killed in the US in the past few months.&nbsp;
