There was a boom in the demand for champagne post-pandemic in 2022 with shipments reaching 326 million. However, the shipments have been declining since then.

Iran court sentences pop singer Tataloo to death for for insulting Prophet

The death toll from the explosion of a petrol tanker truck in Nigeria that killed people rushing to gather fuel has risen to 86, emergency services said Sunday.
The truck carrying 60,000 litres (nearly 16,000 gallons) of gasoline exploded after flipping over on a road in the centre of the country on Saturday, authorities said.
Rescuers had previously put the toll at 70 dead.
"We buried 86 burnt corpses between 12:00 pm yesterday to 2:00 am of today," said Ibrahim Audu Husseini, spokesman for the Niger state's emergency management agency.
"It took us 14 hours to bury the bodies because we couldn't get excavators and had to get locals to dig the mass grave manually."
Another 52 people suffered "severe burns from the explosion", he added.

The blast struck at the Dikko junction on the road linking the federal capital Abuja to the northern city of Kaduna.
A crowd of people rushed to the spot where the tanker had turned over in search of fuel, whose price has soared in an economic crisis.
"I saw a woman carrying a gallon of fuel and the gallon exploded and the fuel splashed over me," Dalandi Abdullahi, told AFP from the hospital treating his flame-ravaged arms and torso.
"That was how I was burnt," the 29-year-old explained.
Shopkeeper Bashiru Umar, who lost merchandise in the blaze, said: "The generator was the cause of the fire, and there was no water to extinguish it."

It was seen as a celebration of ties, and the diaspora which was described as the "living bridge". The event in Ahmedabad, on the lines of "Howdy Modi", saw crowds gathering to welcome the US president. Trump made a rousing speech on India-US ties, but also made a few mispronunciations that started a meme fest on social media. India and US elevated ties to "comprehensive global strategic partnership", and Delhi decided to procure MH-60R naval and AH-64E Apache helicopters. Both sides called out Pakistan for its support of terrorism. The US president and the First Lady Melania Trump also visited the Taj Mahal in Agra. In October that year, India and the US signed the Basic Exchange and Cooperation Agreement (BECA), the last of the four foundational agreements on defence cooperation. BECA helps in sharing advanced satellite and sensor data and its signing coincided with India-China border tensions. 2020 was also the year when the Covid pandemic started, and the US reached out to India, the "pharmacy of the world". The US needed Hydroxychloroquine and Trump called PM Modi. India decided to supply HCQ to the US in April 2020, following the talks, despite India's ban on its exports. Trump also proposed to mediate between India and China in the aftermath of the Galwan incident as border tensions increased. Both Delhi and Beijing rejected his proposal. On Afghanistan, the US continued to engage India, as its special envoy Zalmay Khalilzad, appointed by Trump, visited Delhi several times. India was invited to attend the US-Taliban peace agreement that was officially signed on February 29, 2020, in Doha, Qatar and eventually paved the way for US withdrawal from Afghanistan under the Biden administration, though chaotic. Indian External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar met him in December 2024, one of the first set of engagements between the Indian government and the incoming Trump administration. Marco Rubio, a US Senator from Florida and a China hawk, has been a strong India supporter. In July 2024, he introduced the "US-India Defense Cooperation Act" in the US Congress, aiming to elevate India's status to that of key US allies like Japan, Israel, South Korea, and NATO members in terms of technology transfers and military cooperation. US President-elect Donald Trump will sign some 200 executive orders on the first day in office on Monday (Jan 20) to 'clean up' the country&rsquo;s &ldquo;failed and corrupt political establishment,&rdquo; according to aides.
A report in Fox News Digital said the actions include legally binding executive orders, some involving border security and domestic energy production, while others are focused on reducing costs of living for American families and ending DEI (diversity, equity and inclusion) programmes across the federal government.
Trump plans to begin signing the orders as soon as he is inaugurated, said Jason Miller, a senior adviser for the incoming administration. Many of the &ldquo;omnibus&rdquo; executive orders will contain major actions.

&ldquo;The president is issuing a historic series of executive orders and actions that will fundamentally reform the American government, including the complete and total restoration of American sovereignty,&rdquo; a senior administration official told Fox News Digital.
Trump will also declare a national border emergency on his first day of presidency. He will direct the US military and Department of Homeland Security to secure the southern border completely and also make it a national priority to put an end to criminal cartels operating in the US.

Trump will issue an order to close the border to all illegal aliens, reported Fox News Digital. He will also establish task forces to &ldquo;fully eradicate the presence of criminal cartels&rdquo;.
The task forces will comprise officers from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Council of Economic Advisers (CEA) and other agencies.
Trump will also designate the cartels as foreign terrorist organisations to help achieve his homeland security mission by unlocking new authorities.
According to Fox News Digital, Trump will direct the military to continue the construction of the border wall and reinstate &ldquo;Remain in Mexico&rdquo; and &ldquo;Catch and Release&rdquo; policies.
He will enable emergency authorities to prevent the entry of illegal aliens across the southwest border and allow them to swiftly return to their origin countries.

The report added that Trump will &ldquo;fully unleash&rdquo; Alaskan energy, which is essential for the national security of the country.
Trump will also suspend the security clearances of 51 national security officials linked with the Hunter Biden laptop issue on his first day as president.
He is also expected to establish clear biological sex definitions and rename places like the Gulf of Mexico.

To reduce the cost of living for Americans, the president-elect will sign a memorandum to remove all federal actions that increase costs for families and consumers, which will be the beginning of Trump&rsquo;s &ldquo;historic de-regulatory effort&rdquo; of his second term in the White House.

Russia's Investigative Committee, which probes major crimes, on Sunday alleged Ukrainian troops "committed the murder of at least seven civilians, who were sheltering in the basement of a residential house" in the village of Russkoe Porechnoye, some 20 kilometres (12 miles) from the border.
Several Russian state media outlets had overnight published video, supplied by the army, that they said showed Russian troops discovering several dead bodies in a dark basement.
AFP could not immediately verify the claims or the video, which showed troops in a dark room moving blankets and clothes off the bodies and faces of what they said were dead civilians.
There has been no official response from Ukraine.
