A woman's body was discovered in a car boot in east London, prompting a murder investigation by the police, British media reported on Saturday (Nov 16). The woman, aged 24, has not been identified.
According to a report by The Guardian, Superintendent Steve Freeman of Northamptonshire police said that cops were called on Wednesday by a member of the public concerned about the woman’s welfare.
“Fast-track inquiries were made which sadly led to the discovery of a woman’s body inside the boot of a vehicle in the Ilford area of London,” Superintendent Freeman added.

Woman could be victim of 'targeted incident'
The police said that the 24-year-old woman, a resident of Corby, could have been the victim of a "targeted incident." A murder inquiry was launched.
“Although we believe that this was a targeted incident and there is no wider risk to members of the public, extra patrols will be taking place in Corby in the coming days for reassurance purposes,” Freeman said.
“The investigation is ongoing and there will be continued police activity over the weekend in various locations, including Corby and Ilford," the police official added.
Post mortem conducted
A report by Sky News, meanwhile, said that a post mortem (on the victim) carried out on Friday established that she was murdered.
Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Chief Inspector Johnny Campbell said that although the police believe that the victim was attacked by someone known to her, "we are keeping an open mind, and would appeal to anyone who knew her to contact us with any relevant information they may have."
"If you saw anything suspicious in the past week or have any information, no matter how small, please contact us," Deputy Chief Inspector Campbell added.
