When Starmer was elected to lead UK's Labour Party in 2020, he made it a point to make the party electable.

He also stood against the rising antisemitism in UK in the wake of the attack on Israel and also addressed the antisemitism within the Labour Party that was deemed a big problem under radical leader Corbyn.

Four years later, Starmer is poised to become Britain's leader. Exit polls from Thursday's (July 4) parliamentary elections show Starmer to win the elections by a wide margin.

Keir Starmer's place of origin

Sir Keir Starmer — a former lawyer knighted for his services to criminal justice, has amidst years of chaos, projected a seemingly dull managerialism that has become a beacon for those seeking a return to political normalcy.

Starmer grew up in a small town in Surrey, just outside London. His mother worked for the National Health Service, Britain's free public health care system, and his father was a toolmaker.

Starmer was the first member of his family to go touniversity, after which he helped run a left-wing magazine called Socialist Alternatives. He then became a lawyer. He received his knighthood in 2014, the year before he turned to politics.

What comes next?

Sir Keir is likely to be the next British Prime Minister.

Of the 650 seatsin the Parliament, Starmer needs his Labour Party to secure at least 326 to claim the top position. An exit poll predicted Labour would comfortably surpass this mark, forecasting the party would gain 209 seats for a total of 410. Assuming the threshold of 326 is reached, Sunak will resign, and King Charles III will promptly take the necessary but largely ceremonial step of inviting Starmer to form a new government.

Starmer would then appear to make his first speech outside 10 Downing Street, the official residence of Britain's top elected official.

After the formalities are completed, Starmer will select the members of his new cabinet.
