Who is the Romanian businessman?

As per an ABC report, the claim of accepting money to influence government agencies stems from Hunter Biden's work with a wealthy Romanian businessman identified by the initials "G P".

Reuters reports that "G P" could be Gabriel Popoviciu, however, the news agency adds that it could not verify this.

Prosecutors allege that "G P" hired Hunter Biden for legal work in 2015 when Joe Biden was serving as former US PresidentBarack Obama's vice president.

They say that they plan to present evidence that Hunter Biden and a business associate of his "received compensation from a foreign principal who was attempting to influence U.S. policy and public opinion and cause the United States to investigate the Romanian investigation of GP in Romania."

As per prosecutors, Hunter Biden and the business associate "were concerned that lobbying work" which they claim "might cause political ramifications for the defendant's father."

They also allege that Hunter Biden wanted to conceal the "true nature" of his work for the businessman GP.

Hunter Biden tax case

Last December, a grand jury charged Hunter Biden with failing to pay $1.4 million in taxes between 2016 and 2019, even as he spent millions of dollars on drugs and various high-ticket items.

In addition, he faced charges of intentionally evading tax assessment for the 2018 tax year by submitting fraudulent returns. The US president's son faces three felony charges and additional misdemeanour counts.

In June of this year, Hunter, in a separate trial, was convicted of lying about illegal drug use when he bought a handgun in 2018 by a Delaware jury. He is still awaiting his sentence.
