US presidential election: Donald Trump to rally on Oct 5 at site of first assassination attempt, says report

Current Republican presidential candidate and former United States (US) president Donald Trump would rally on October 5 at the site of the first assassination attempt against him in Butler, Pennsylvania, American media reported on Monday (Sept 23).

The attempt onTrump's life came after he wasshot at a campaign rallyin Butler on July 13, sustaining a minor injury to his right ear. The shooter, identified as 20-year-old Thomas Crooks, was shot dead by the Secret Service.

The former president survived another assassination attempt on September 15.

The rally on October 5

Citing sources, a report by CBS News on Monday said that the October 5 rally would take place at theButler Farm Show fairgrounds, where he survived the assassination attempt.

The set-up for the upcoming event is likely to be similar to the July rally, the CBS News report said.Trump has repeatedly said he'd return to Butler in a post on his social media platform Truth Social days after the July 13 assassination attempt.

Since the Butler incident, Trump has spoken at his outdoor rallies from behind bulletproof glass.

'A miracle that I wasn't killed'

On being asked whether he was suffering anypost-traumatic stress after the shooting, Trump told CBS News he was not and pointed out it was a miracle that he was not killed.

"The answer is, it was a very- it was a very close call, an eighth of an inch, and I wouldn't be talking to you right now. And I think God has a reason for doing things, and his reason might very well be that he wants to save this country, maybe save the world," Trump said.
