American broadcaster CNN on Saturday (June 16) laid out the ground rules for the presidential election debate between President Joe Biden and Donald Trump. According to CNN, Biden and Trump will face off in a90-minute debate with mutable microphones. The debate is set to take place in Atlanta on June 27. It will have two hosts and no studio audience.

Both candidates agreed to appear at a uniform podium, and their podium positions will be determined by a coin flip, CNN said, addingthat microphones "will be muted throughout the debate except for the candidate whose turn it is to speak."

Debate will last for 90 minutes with two breaks

Some aspects of the debate –- including the absence of a studio audience –- will be a departure from previous debates, the broadcaster further said on Saturday.

The eligibility to take part in debate

CNN said candidates eligible to participate (in the debate)must appear on a sufficient number of state ballots to reach the 270 electoral vote threshold needed to win and receive at least 15 per centin four separate national polls.

CNN said it is "not impossible" Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who is running as an independent, could qualify, saying he has received at least 15 per centin three qualifying polls to date and has qualified for the ballot in six states, making him eligible for 89 electoral college votes.
