US elections 2024: The 2024 United States presidential election will be the 60th quadrennial US presidential election. This will be the first presidential election under the electoral vote distribution determined by the 2020 census. These elections are scheduled to be held on November 5 (Tuesday).

During this presidential election year, the president and vice president will be elected. Approximately 244 million people are eligible to vote in the upcoming US presidential election next month. In US presidential elections, online voting is usually not available as a popular option. Most states have not adopted online voting systems due to concerns about security, privacy and reliability. In most elections in the US, you need to vote either in person at an official polling place or by casting an absentee ballot.

However, there are a few exceptions and other remote voting methods available:

Absentee voting is available in all US states and is the primary way voters can vote remotely. You can request an absentee ballot if you're unable to vote in person. Many states allow absentee voting without requiring a specific reason, while others may require voters to meet certain criteria, such as:

- Being out of the country or state on election day

- Having a disability or illness

Absentee ballots are usually submitted by mail, although some states allow drop-off locations.

Under the Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act (UOCAVA), US citizens who are members of the military or live abroad can vote remotely using an absentee ballot. Some states allow these voters to submit their ballots electronically via fax, email or secure web portals, although this varies by state.

In some states, voters with disabilities are allowed to request an electronic ballot that can be filled out and submitted electronically. However, this is generally limited to specific populations and is not equivalent to full online voting.

The main reason the US does not offer online voting on a broader scale is the risk of cyberattacks, hacking and data breaches. Online voting systems could be vulnerable to manipulation, undermining election integrity and voter trust.
