Trump campaign worried about Kamala Harris' 'extended honeymoon period' in prez race

Donald Trump's campaign for the November elections might be on shaky ground after the culmination of the Democratic National Convention (DNC) in Chicago, his pollsters have warned.

According to the latest CNN report, Tony Fabrizio and Travis Tunis - two of Trump's pollsters, wrote a concerning memo, saying that they foresaw an extended honeymoon period for Vice President Kamala Harris who replaced Joe Biden in the presidential race last month.

“Post-DNC we will likely see another small (albeit temporary) bounce for Harris in the public polls. Post-Convention bounces are a phenomenon that happens after most party conventions,” the memo says.

“So don’t be surprised to see Harris get a temporary 2 to 3 point bump,” it added.

The pollsters urged the Trump supporters to keep their 'eye on the ball', referring to the states where the Republican leader had a greater chance of winning.

“The other thing to keep in mind is that while the media is going to focus on the national polls, we need to keep our eye on the ball – that is the polling in our target states. Our goal is to get to 270 (Electoral College votes) and winning these states is how we do it.”

What do the polls say?

Even before the DNC, Harris was projected to be ahead of Trump in three key states, according to a poll by the New York Times/Siena College.

Harris was seemingly leading in theUS states of Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania where she received50 per cent of the vote against 46 per cent for Trump. In the same swing states, Harris' numbers show a notable improvement over those of President Joe Biden.

Despite being rather reluctant to talk on her policy issues since replacing Biden, Harris has steadily seen an uptick in her approval ratings.Harris’ approval rating has jumped from -14.6 to -2.4, according to FiveThirtyEight’s average.

Recent YouGov polls showed that after Harris launched her run, about 90 per centof Democrats consistently found her favourable. Her campaignalso received a record amount of donations, especially from first-time voters after she announced her candidature.

Meanwhile, Trump, who narrowly survived an assassination attempt last month during a public rally in Butler Country, Pennsylvania, is struggling to gain a media footprint. His campaign has seemingly plateaued according to US-based experts who believe that the former prez would have to take drastic decisions to restore the parity.
