Former United States President Donald Trump met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Friday (Sep 27). Trump said that he and Zelensky have a “very good relationship”. However, just after that, the former US president also said that he has a "very good relationship" with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The Republican presidential candidate met with Zelensky at Trump Tower in New York on Friday. This comes after Zelensky met with the Democratic nominee for president and incumbent Vice President Kamala Harris, in Washington DC.

Trump further assured Zelensky that if he gets elected in the upcoming elections, he will resolve the Russia-Ukraine conflict "very quickly". 

“I think if we win, we’re going to get it resolved very quickly,” he said.

The Ukrainian leader was standing next to Trump and immediately responded that he hoped that he and Trump would have a better relationship than the one between Putin and Trump.

Zelensky further said that he and the former US president have a “common view that the war in Ukraine has to be stopped” and that it was important to meet with both presidential candidates.

After meeting Zelensky, Trump said, "It’s an honor to have the president with us, and he’s been through a lot", adding that he is going through a "tremendous amount". 

Trump called Zelensky 'greatest salesman'

The meeting between Trump and Zelensky comes days after the former accused the latter of favouring Democrats over Republicans ahead of the presidential elections on November 5. He also called the Ukrainian leader the world’s ‘greatest salesman’.

"Zelensky is the greatest salesman in history. Every time he comes into the country, he walks away with $60 billion," Trump said. The 45th POTUS also suggested that Zelensky was benefitting from US aid to Ukraine.
