Trump assassination attempt: Shooter purchased 50 rounds of ammunition before attacking ex-US prez

Twenty-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, the man who attempted to assassinate former US president Donald Trump during the weekend, purchased 50 rounds of ammunition before carrying out the shooting, American media reported on Monday (July 15).
Speaking to CNN, a seniorlaw enforcement official said that Crooks purchased 50 rounds of ammunition before aiming at Trump during his election campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
Trump did not sustain any severe wounds but suffered an injury on his right ear. Crooks was shot dead by Secret Service agents.
FBI raids gunman's house
On Monday, two agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI)were seen entering Crooks' house. TheFBI has taken the lead in an investigation of the assassination attempt on Trump.

President Joe Biden ordered an independent review of how the gunman, who was shot dead by agents moments after opening fire, could have come so close to killing or severely woundingTrumpdespite the heavy security provided by the Secret Service.
The motive of the 20-year-old suspect remained a mystery two days after the attack with the suspect having been shot dead and the FBI unable to identify an ideology or motive that may have driven him to attack the former president.
No history of mental health issues
A day before raiding Crooks' house, the FBI said thathis social media profile contained no threatening language, nor had they found any history of mental health issues, the news agency Reuters reported.

Crooks stands out among other recent, high-profile shooters who opened fire at schools, churches, malls, and parades because he came within inches of killing a USpresidential candidate, something that has not occurred in decades.
