'Some of the women...': Trump makes tasteless joke about slain firefighter's wife

Former US president Donald Trump

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump was heard making an inappropriate joke about the widow of the firefighter who died during an assassination attempt on the former president at his Butler, Pennsylvania rally in an alleged leaked audio recording.

The Guardian reported about the audio clip in which he is recalling his conversation with Corey Comperatore's wife during a private dinner on August 10 in Aspen.

On July 13, as Trump addressed the crowd, a shot was fired at him which he escaped with a minor injury. Secret Service quickly whisked him away to safety. However, a man sitting in the crowd died after he dived to save his family.

Trump met the firefighter's wife at a dinner held at the $38 million home of art collectors and investors John and Amy Phelan on August 10 in Aspen, Colorado. Here he handed his widow a check. The Guardian reported about a 12-minute recording of a conversation Trump had with Governor Greg Abbott.

"So they’re going to get millions of dollars but the woman, the wife, this beautiful woman, I handed her the check—we handed her the check,” the Republican nominee says in the clip, recalling his meeting with Helen Comperatore. “And she said, ‘This is so nice, and I appreciate it, but I’d much rather have my husband.’ Now I know some of the women in this room wouldn’t say the same."

He then goes on to say that "at least four couples. There are four couples, Governor [Abbott], that I know and you’re not one of them. At least four couples here would have been thrilled, actually."

The attendees at the event had to contribute $500,000 to join the host committee or $25,000 to attend. Notably, Texas Governor Greg Abbott, Rep. Lauren Boebert, Steve Wynn, and billionaire Thomas Peterffy were at the event.

Trump rants against migrants

The Guardian reported that Trump arrived at the event in his private jet and went on a rant against migrants. He launched a profanity-laden tirade against undocumented migrants, an issue he has used as a major tool in the run-up to the November presidential election.

He called out political leaders for facilitating the entry of convicted criminals into the US. He also recounted an incident that supposedly didn't happen about more than 20 individuals he said travelled to the US after being released from prison in a Central African nation.

“We said, ‘Where do you come from?’ They said, ‘Prison.’ ‘What did you do?’ ‘None of your f---ing business what we did,’” he reportedly narrated an exchange between an alleged migrant and an unnamed official. “You know why? Because they’re murderers.”

He seemingly admits that his language wasn't appropriate. "I hate to use that foul language," he said.

Trump's most known claim against migrants comes from Ohio where he says Haiti migrants are eating pets and ducks.
