Police in the United States (US) have arrested an Arizona man after threatening over social media to kill former president and current Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump.
The arrest was made on Thursday (Aug 22), the news agency reported on Saturday citing theCochise County Sheriff's Office. Trump was inCochise County on Thursday when he visited the USborder with Mexico as part of his campaign.
The man, identified as 66-year-oldRonald Lee Syvrud, had multiple outstanding warrants from Wisconsin, the sheriff's office said.
The office added thatSyvrud was subsequently booked into the Cochise County Jail on a felony warrant from Graham County in Arizona for "failure to register as a sex offender and two counts of threatening for this case."
The 66-year-old remained in custodypending further court adjudication, Reuters reported.
On being asked about the threat issued by Syvrud, Trump said, "I am not that surprised (by the threat) and the reason is because I want to do things that are very bad for the bad guys."
This threat came more than a month after Trump survived an assassination attempt on July 13. Trump was not seriously wounded but suffered an injury on his right ear. The shooter, identified as Thomas Crooks, was shot dead by Secret Service agents.
Despite the Arizona threat and the July assassination attempt, Trump said on Thursday that he had great respect forthe Secret Service and "the job they do," while adding they made mistakes from which they would learn.

Many candidates have been threatened ahead of the November 5 presidential election.
In early August, a Virginia man was charged with threatening Vice President and current Democratic presidential candidateKamala Harris.
In December last year,a New Hampshire man was arrested in December for threatening to kill Republican presidential candidates.
