With just days remaining for the US presidential election, Democratic candidate Kamala Harris made a surprising appearance on Saturday Night Live (SNL), where she engaged in a humorous skit with comedian Maya Rudolph, known for her portrayal of the vice president.
On Saturday (Nov 2) standing opposite each other in matching black suits and pearls, Harris and Rudolph shared jokes riffing on the candidate's first name, playing on phrases like Americans want to "end the drama-la" in politics "with a cool new stepmom-ala," and "Keep Calm-ala and carry on-ala."

This marked Harris' first SNL cameo, joining the ranks of other presidential hopefuls — including Trump during his first presidential bid in 2015 — who have used the platform to connect with audiences in past election cycles.
Harris' appearance was part of an intense final campaign push, which also saw her plane sharing the tarmac in Charlotte, North Carolina, with her opponent Donald Trump's aircraft as both candidates held rallies in the battleground state.
The parallel campaigning, now common, has seen the candidates criss-crossing key swing states, four days in a row. A recent poll gave Harris an unexpected lead in Iowa, a state that Trump easily won in the last two elections.
On the campaign trail, Trump and Harris focused on familiar themes. Trump reiterated his plan to deport millions of immigrants and warned that if Harris wins, "Every town in America would be turned into a squalid, dangerous refugee camp."
Harris, meanwhile, described Trump as "increasingly unstable" and "obsessed with revenge, consumed with grievance," and accused him of being after "unchecked power" if re-elected.
More than 75 million voters have already cast ballots, according to data from the University of Florida's Election Lab.
